dear yuletide author
hi! i don't really have a clever introduction, so i'll get right to it (prepare yourself for many sentences starting with 'i like'). i will read any rating (i love genfic, but i also love porn. anything in between is also great!) in pretty much any genre. i prefer optimistic endings, but i don't necessarily need a wrapped-up and happy ending; i like loose ends and unresolved problems. i like intertwining narratives, whether they be between two characters or between different periods of time within a character's lifetime. i like reading about character growth in both good and bad ways. i also have a pretty serious language kink. that's probably only of note for goon (grondin's accent gets stronger as the film progresses for some reason? like, when he asks doug, "what the fuck happened to you, man?", it falls into a french intonation pattern and gets a little nasal-y around the vowels. ugh), but still. love that.
i will not read fic with character death (major or minor) or non-con/rape. dub-con is okay, as long as there is an indication of consent at some point. outside of that, though, i'm actually pretty easy to please and even more so because you're taking the time to write fic for me. thank you so much and have fun!

alma, artur
i blindly nominated this movie because i felt i had heard enough about it and my interest was seriously piqued. (plus, it was going to be at a theatre near me soon. natch.) it lived up to the expectations i created for it. i like how the film is focused solely on discovering and understanding what it means to be a sexual person, especially from a female perspective. i picked both alma and artur, but i don't care if you write about them as a couple or not. i'd be happy with fic about either of them. i love alma's character for how she embodies what a teenager is -- selfish and impulsive. i also like how no matter what happens throughout the film, she's never ashamed about the fact that she enjoys sex and likes thinking about it. on the flip-side, i think genfic about artur and his construction of sexuality would be really interesting, considering his behaviour in the film. (likewise, i'd read about alma and her sexuality independent of artur.) if you want to write about them as a couple during or after the film (i can't imagine them pre-film, truthfully), please do! the most important part to take away from this is that i think their characters are interesting because of their sexuality, but the level you want to interact with that is totally up to you. i'm comfortable/cool with whatever.
the wanted
jay mcguiness, max george, tom parker
i really wanted to nominate the entire band, but four character spaces for five band members didn't really allow that to happen. so, i chose the guys i'd like to read from the point-of-view of. although, i'd totally be down for some tom/max from whatever pov. i kind of fell for the wanted in a bad way at the end of last year and was bummed to find out that zero fic exists. i would really be happy with anything. i love the boys and their weirdness and immaturity (here: let me link you!), but they still remain total sweethearts. seriously, i would take genfic where they brainstorm ideas for their stupid #wantedwednesday videos or plan tour pranks with one another's respective girlfriends (they actually do this, oh my god) or where tom and max enable each other's bad habits in a hurt-y way or an au where they're mi-5 or -6 agents (i blame the code tour entirely. like, WHAT EVEN) or the one where jay is a frequent regular at coffee-shop open-mic nights and writes ridiculous indie-folk songs that all majorly feature handclaps. SERIOUSLY, ANY FIC. just have fun!

xavier laflamme, doug glatt, gord ogilvey
so, i've watched this movie about six times in the last week-and-a-half. that's totally normal. i picked doug and xavier for obvious reasons, and i picked olgilvey for related, but other (special) reasons. the first time i watched goon, i really didn't like doug and even now, his character kind of bothers me a little bit (i think it's the fact that he doesn't question most of the things that are asked of him), but he becomes infinitely more interesting to me in context with xavier. because i really love xavier and the sheer complexity of his character. i think about him a lot in terms of expectations: how he was obviously supposed to have a successful pro career and how his concussion gave him an out from that pressure. i also think about how he was a poster boy for the successful québecoise hockey player, but ended up disgracing that image (if you will) and, in effect, his french identity. i would read about any of this in a xavier-only or a xavier/doug context. i really don't hate doug, but i find xavier so much more interesting and the film presents all these little glimpses of xavier's history and leaves them to be solved off-screen.
as for ogilvey, i'd love to see any sort of fic dealing with his drinking or him taking steps to make himself happier. or, alternatively, he and xavier turn into drinking buddies because no one else can keep up and then feelings. or whatever.
