This is a thing about life that I hate. Hate, hate, hate. Hate those aspects of resumes, interviews, and of course I was a terrible waitress who never got tipped.

I sort of feel like the internet is a great laboratory for us all to work on our brands. By the time people actually see and hear us in the flesh, we can be a familiar brand.

I really like the part of (government) cubicle nation I inhabit right now. I love being a cog in the machine. When I was a consultant I hated the way you had to sell yourself in order to sell the company. I can see working up to being good at something like that in the future, but I was woefully unequipped at the time.

I think you "sell your brand" every day as a cog in the works (so to speak). You are the helpful, behind the scenes person that people rely on and trust to get the job done. (I'm extrapolating from not much information, so if the description doesn't fit, sorry. :D) Just because you're not overtly "selling" doesn't mean you aren't selling. The quality of your work sells you for you.

Just because it's considered less glamorous by some to be in the position you're in shouldn't mean a darn thing if you enjoy what you do. Them's my two cents.

I think you're really brave and adventurous. You have a lot of guts and self determination, to seek out new more challenging opportunities and go for them. *cheers you*

I hope you do start up your own business; I think you have what it takes to really make a success of it.

Since graduating college I have been an English teacher/event planner/musician and now a freelance translator. The latter has been really interesting. It occurred to me the other day that I essentially have started my own business in a really limited kind of way.

That whole branding thing...yeah...being an amateur musician/songwriter/composer now, and hoping to one day maybe pay some bills with it...I've spent a fair bit of time over the last year trying to build up an internet presence of some sort. I've had some very modest success...I guess I'll just keep plugging away.

You really strike me as the kind of person who would own their own business. I can't say what the business would be, but I can just imagine you having some unique thing or service to provide. I think you have the right personality for that too, in that I think you would be able to carve out a niche.

I've listened to some of your stuff. I think you've got a promising career ahead of you.

Just got a keep on keeping on, you know?

You, my Dear, are a leader and was designed to be a creative dynamic one, and if you believe it to be in the area of owning a business, awesome!:)

I know for myself I have had a similar feeling and have really GROWN as a person through my business. Would you like to have a talk before I leave to flesh-out which direction you want to go? Or shoot some ideas?

P.S. are you still in Kzoo or have you gone to your new home?

I would love to talk, definitely.

And yes, we're still in Kzoo, and probably will be through January, 2010.
