I was going to recommend what Ruth did: pred. It will help if it's cancer or something else causing inflammation. No harm in trying it either.

I agree with everything said here. Also, try getting X-rays or something to get a look at this mysterious mass. Our Rogue had FIVE tumors in her wee beelly that, once removed, she lived for almost two more years with us. Surgery is not cheap, but worth every penny for the extra time it provides.
