Mini-gathering

Well, I promised an update an this seems the perfect opportunity, as sadly Merlin no longer deserves my full attention.

angelsasha and I prepared for alsha's arrival by ensuring we were horribly hungover when she arrived jetlagged off the plane from NZ. We spent Tuesday night at karaoke with my colleagues, tormenting them with such gems as 'Carry On My Wayward Son', "Screamager' and 'Going Through the Motions'. I somehow dragged myself to lectures the morning after while Sasha went to the airport. We spent the afternoon in a nearby pub with pizza and coke, then headed back for a quiet evening of S1 Merlin (complete with commentary on how far it has fallen).

On Thursday I had to go to lectures again - boo! Alsha went off to meet some friends and then we all went to play squash (random, I know, a couple of my friends from work play on an afternoon and I thoguht it would be fun). Alsha very kindly taught Sasha and me to serve rather than just wiping the court with us. For the rest of the afternoon Alsha went back to join her friends and Sasha and I went home to knit/study respectively. In the evening we went down to my friends' house to eat pizza and play complicated board games. We only had time for Endeavour but it was fun.

Friday I had lectures and work - why do they do this to me?! Alsha and Sasha went to the Natural History Museum to see the dinosaurs and steal a giant squid. In the evening Sasha went to meet an old Uni friend and Alsha and I went to a little cafe/restaurant nearby for food, drink and a lovely chat.

Saturday was a slooooow start, mooching about, eating breakfast and other such important things. Since it was a beautiful day we decided to walk most of the way to the theatre to see Faust. It was a thoroughly bonkers, thoroughly enjoyable show: an acrobatic Icelandic theatre troupe and music by Nick Cave. The simplest thing was a net over the whole of the audience that the actors bounced into from the rafters and down from to the stage - made for a great spectacle.

We headed straight back after the theatre to my favourite chilled local pub to meet sarajael and Miiiike for a bite and, erm, several bottles of wine. It was really great to chat and catch up, although sadly Sasha had to go home as she wasn't well.

And then, as ever, it was over far too quickly. We dropped off Alsha at the coach station on Sunday morning, then Sasha and I watched a bit of Angel, headed out for some lovely healthy Japanese food and then to a cafe to knit... then Sasha went to the train station and I went to the library. It was a fab chilled few days and at least I get to catch Alsha briefly on her way back through next week!

gathering, update, life
