He's got quite a record, and this chronology isn't 100% accurate: worked in Teen Challenge USA for a while, law enforcement (to include SWAT) for 10 years, private security for a few years, and now concurrently private security/LEO/military trainer and local cop.
He's been with our church for about three years, but didn't take an active role in our team until about 18 months ago. The guy is a wealth of information; I'd love to get more training with/from him but it's hard to get more than 50% of the team together on a given Saturday the way things are right now.
Edit: this is only the record of our trainer, Sean; the guy I mentioned before, Ken, is the one in charge. Each of them has proven to be abundantly capable in their roles.
With LGBT, -and leftwing ideology in general- it's helpful they are 'boiling the frog' too fast of late. It's easy for the more naive and gullible people in their sheltered enclaves to think it's all benign, but sometimes it's helpful to experience the worst of the worst like that joke I used to make about how white liberals should take field trips into the ghetto. Exposure is the best medicine.
Christianity needs to buck the 'Cult of Indiscriminateness' the left pushes and go back to being judgmental. That was the problem Mom used to complain about at the church in Illinois. We'd have wife swappers showing up dressed slutty to teach bible school for the kids, and if a person complained, the attitude was like, "Well, they do such good work for the church, we can let their personal life slide." One church had a female pastor who got divorced. Mom brought up a good point that if you sin, you're supposed to be sorry about it and try to change. You aren't supposed to shove everybody's face in it and then have an attitude like, 'Everybody

I like to bring up the distinction between "judgment" and "discernment" in cases like these, because I think the differences are relevant.
Outside of our legal (justice) system, the only judgment that really matters is the Final Judgment...however in the meantime, I can *discern* that I don't want an unrepentant adulterous whore teaching our children, and therefore petition the church to remove her (and keep my kids out of Sunday School until that happens...and probably withhold my tithes too).
I'm thankful that our church has not had any egregious lapses in discernment like that, at least since I've been going there.
Tangential note: I have read that "judgement," with the extra "e," is becoming more acceptable and commonplace. As for now, I'm not buying into it.
Interesting. I've never heard that distinction before, but I'll start using it.
Another problem in and out of the church is nobody fears consequences. That's another side effect of our terrible culture but also another instant where the leftists boiled the frog too fast. I facetiously said my New Years resolution was to avoid crowds since Trump became president, but hopefully we get to point where more evil people and criminals have to be afraid of consequences than good law abiding citizens.

Who is in charge of your team and your training? Sounds like they really have their ducks in a row.
I really wish our church could get something like that going, but I've talked about the challenges before over in my own LJ.
