Mini game reviews

I rented Bully last night, and threw in a good 5 hours of play today. I don't care if you read this, but I felt like writing this anyway. Playing video games for a living is the dream, no ( Read more... )

The big thing about FF 12 for me is not really the combat, it's a combination of things. The story is killer, thats really the attracts me. Lies. Deception. Dark. All from right from the beginning. You really REALLY have to pay attention to understand everything thats going on. You won't get lost, but since I've restarted I've noticed a bunch of things that I didn't before. IE: this is a person not a place, He did this thing to prevent this from happening at this place, etc ( ... )

yeah, there are gambits in place, and you can't modify them. I imagine that would help, if I could have control over the stupid shit my party is doing. But in reality, I had Asche (That's her name, right? the princess with the huge sword. Someone always has to have a huge sword,) attacking and occasionally throwing out Blizzara spells at the bombs. I was in some dungeon where you have to hunt down some Adamantoise and get a key to leave. The place is full of monsters call Gazers, Headless, and the standard FF Bomb. I also couldn't figure out why some of the characters would slash anywhere from 1 to 4 times. I mean, it's handy to have them doing 1200+ damage in a single attack, but I'd like to know why. It basically only seemed to happen when it didn't matter (e.g. not against the boss)

I find modifying the gambits to be a big part of the fun in combat. I have found the princess with the huge sword, though she isn't in my party yet. I'm currently trying to rescue her. The demo is probably just to show you "hey look....a game!"

I imagine the demo also doesn't let you customize your characters however the hell you want via the license board (which is similar to the sphere grid...but all characters start at about the same spot and can go anywhere at anytime).

I can't imagine you get much story knowledge in this demo either

Yeah if you take out all the fun stuff the game sucks. I never trust demos for games that require a little bit of time to get into. You can't really just jump into FF 12 and understand everything thats happening.

The dungeons that I've been in monsters do respawn...but very slowly. Like you should be LONG gone before they repop.

The multihit thing I don't quite understand either. Originally I thought it was to take the place of critical hits...but nay. It's just some random thing I think.

I also didn't like the demo. The real game is nothing like it though.. I haven't really configured my gambits that much yet but knowing I can and knowing why they're doing what they're doing is helping a lot. My first big boss battle (the fire horse thingy) cemented my appreciation for the system. License grid is stupidly named but well done, in what little I've played with it. I'm kind of enjoying this Hunt thing, though the second target is much to difficult to do on your own when you first get it, I wish they'd said that when I signed up for it :) Load times suck, so I bought ff5 advance.. I figure I'll play through that a few times every cut scene and I should be happy.
