have you been following the CBC coverage? they too compared it to the Polytechnique shootings, but they did stress the differences.

Yeah, Mike and I were listening to the CBC this morning and they mentioned the Montreal Massacre every three or four minutes.

We were both like, "this isn't the same thing, jackass!"

Well it's a gun rampage that happened at a quasi post-secondary institution in Montreal, the third in fact, so that's what makes it similar. Of course, the difference is that Lepine targeted women specifically in his murderous rampage, whereas in this case, it would seem that the murderer didn't discriminate, and owingin part to the Dec 6 massacre, the police are now better at reacting, so fewer people died yesterday. At the same time, raising awareness about the killings again at l'Ecole Polytecnique is not a bad thing. It makes people remember and once again feel sorrow and pain for the women who were the targets of that madman. I think it's significant and good that the media are referring to the Montreal Massacre again. I think it's reasonable for them to talk about all three incidents. I'm surprised the Concordia-Fabrikant rampage hasn't been spoken of much.

The papers have been disgusting - in the 30 page photo spread kind of way. So far all of the articles I've seen make the polytech comparison, and none of them mention that the polytech killings were directed towards women...

(Also, I don't think I'll be in town for either of your Montreal shows. Curses!)
