i've been watching episodes of "kyle xy" online and i'm truly surprised at how far a national mainstream television network has come.
- exhibit A: a whole episode about students rioting for the right for same-sex couples to attend their dance
- exhibit B: parents who smoke pot and get found out by their kids, the mature conversation that ensues

I haven't watched JPod only because I want to get through the book first. So far, it's the only Douglas Coupland novel that's failed to captivate me.

see, i hadn't even read it yet either. but it seemed like the premise was more interesting than most of the other books he's written... for me... i always thought i might be too dumb to read coupland, but really i've never tried. i thought watching the show would get me into his books. perhaps i'm trying it all backwards...

really? i was always curious because the ads showed a kid with no belly button... which they explain at the end of season 1... i do warn you, it *is* a teen dramedy + crime mystery + soft sci-fi... but i watch it like a guilty pleasure and analyze social interactions. a lot of the stuff in the script wouldn't have been kosher 5 or even 10 years ago! on a teen show!! on network television......

I have to second the motion that I'd have never watched the show, based on the name. also, it wouldn't have blipped my rardar, simply because it's a) on cable, I'm assuming b) a teen show and c) I have been mildly obsessed with crime shows. Anywho, I will give it a spin. It sounds really cool.

oh, *shameface* I have yet to read and/or ingest anything by Coupland.... its on my list. Mayhap my next for-fun nonfic.....

no, you're not the only one. i haven't touched anything coupland either. it's not on the top of the list. but it *is* on my list. beware of the first episodes, they are very "pilot"-ey. but still interesting. 'abc family' is not on regular cable, i'm pretty sure you have to get it with a package. because 'abc' is the main network.
