“I thought you’d never come back!” Kagome protested as the young boy stepped towards her. Like before, he was hesitant, but Kagome payed no attenttion. “I’m glad you decided to visit, Sesshomaru-sama.”
Surprised, he blinked, and then his gaze sharpened. “Sesshomaru-sama?”
“It suits you,” she said honestly. “I once met another Sesshomaru. He was very elegant and honorable and I think such a name should be carried with proper respect, don’t you think?”
To her joy, he sat besides her without having to ask. His eyes never leaved her face. Does he like to watch me? His shoulders straightened. “Yes.”

Kagome stared warily. Her nose rose in suspicion. “Boys never gave me pretty things. I’m not sick, Sesshomaru-sama.”
Slowly, he blinked. She believed he was perplexed. Sesshomaru used that expression a lot with her. “I know. But you sleep a lot.”
“It’s summer vacation, Sesshomaru-sama,” Kagome protested.
“Only when I come you awake.”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
She smiled. “Because you’re worth it, Sesshomaru-sama.”
Shyly, he handed her a dreamcatcher. It had feathers hanging and the design was delicately intricate. “So you do not have nightmares,” he prompted.
Kagome laughed. “I like it!”

“School is important,” he said solemnly. “Mother told me.”
“Your mother,” she sighed. “Is she nice to you?”
“She is a good mother.”
“That should do it, then,” Kagome replied, amused. Suddenly, Sesshomaru announced:
“I will go to school. You shall go too.”
“Do I?”
“Yes.”
“Okay, Sesshomaru-sama.” She rolled over, her smile sweet and gentle. “As you wish.”
He nodded, satisfied.

No, she decided. Kagome’d never been a coward. A pretty girl with curly hair smiled towards her. It took her a momento to recognize Ayumi. “Hello, Kagome!” she said.
I’m doing this for you, Sesshomaru-sama. Straightening her shoulders, Kagome replied, “Hello, Ayumi. How was your summer?”
“Very good, thank you! We talked very little. I missed you.”
She was, Kagome realized, blinking, forgetting the real world. That will not do.

“Eri, Yuka!” Ayumi called, voice cheerful. Kagome tried to get in the mood too. I’ve missed them even though I slept so much... Pushing aside Sesshomaru’s childish face, the only thing she had been waiting for what seemed forever, Kagome laughed.
“Hi, Eri, Yuka!” she said. Her friends beamed openly, and the shameless happiness there made her a little bit... just a bit... guilty. Blushing, she accepted hugs and giggles with patience.
“Kagome, we barely heard about you,” Yuka protested, always willing to scold someone. “Eri thought you weren’t coming back.”
Smiling shyly, she said softly, “I made a promise.”
