300zx Rear Main and Clutch Replacement (Finally Finished)

Sep 08, 2009 00:09

If you've read my last few posts you will see that I've been in the process of replacing my clutch and rear main seal due to a nice oil leak. I finished the work up about a week or two ago, but haven't really had much time to post the remaining pictures. Since the ending of the story is already spoiled, I won't bore you with the details, and instead post some pics (and maybe a few comments).

The car out finally home, though it still needs a good wash.

My flying Z.

The garage we rent is a total shithole.

In much need of a wash.

While cleaning my transmission I ended up dropping it and breaking the shifter support bracket tab.

Here it is welded back in place.

New rear main seal installed and sealed.

New clutch in place. Unfortunately I don't have an pics of just the flywheel.

Driver side downpipe installed.

Engine bay with plenum and fuel rail removed. I had to pull the plenum to remove my old clutch hard lines and install the braided stainless steel one.

New test pipes I picked up at the last minute due to some issues with the stock mid pipes and CATs.

O2 bungs welded on to test pipes for an after market A/F ratio gauge.

Test pipes installed.

Boost and oil pressure gauges lit up in my room.

These are just some pics of the car outside of my apartment. Still needs a good wash though.

My new light-up rear panel.

In the dark.

Som pictures of my car at night (uber blurry because I can't hold the camera still enough).

Anyway, thats about it. The car is running now at full boost (15 psi) and is quicker than before. I still need to check/set the timing, check for boost leaks, and get a tune. It's running a bit rich, which is probably hurting it's performance. I also plan on doing a compression test soon to check the condition of the engine. I'm hoping everything is within specs, but I have a feeling I'll be rebuilding an engine in the near future.
