The Ravenclaw Common Room was filled with the rather loud laughing of four Ravenclaw students staying up past bedtime. It was the Friday right before class resumed after the winter holidays and Scorpius had felt it was time to break open the bottle of Firewhiskey his Mum had sent for Christmas. He had subtly told his five favorite housemates to grab a bird and meet him in the Common Room.

"Where's Lysander?" Albus asked as a half-asleep Helena followed him, clutching his hand.

"Yeah," Louis said, following closely behind with a completely asleep Atia in his arms. "Oof, I think the lady gained weight."

"Don't let her hear you say that, Louis," Myrtle laughed as she came down the stairs, Terry's flying memo in hand.

"How'd you two get upstairs, anyway?" Cho added, following behind Myrtle. She, like Myrtle, had gotten a flying memo from Roger.

Albus grinned at Cho as Helena nuzzled against his shoulder. "Ask us no questions..."

"..and we'll tell you no lies," Louis finished, dropping Atia on the couch. Atia groaned and opened a sleepy eye. She surveyed the room slowly before bolting straight and screaming.

"Merlin's pants, mute your bird!" Scorpius declared, stuffing his fingers into his ears. Louis quickly clamped a hand over Atia's mouth.

"Shush, Atia!" Atia glared at Louis. "Now...if I let go...don't---yeowch! She bit me! SHE BIT ME!" Louis shook his hand as he hopped around, shaking his hand.

"You clearly need to pick better birds, Louis," Scorpius laughed and looked at Padma, who giggled. "Anyway, let's keep our voices low or Flitwick's going to barge through the doo--" Scorpius' sentence was cut off by the door to the Common Room opening. The party assembled froze.

Lysander entered, pulling a sleepy Susan behind him. There was a collective release of breath from the group. "Merlin, Lysander! You went out to grab a Hufflepuff?" Scorpius declared.

"Yeah, you did say to grab my favorite bird," Lysander scratched the back of his head. "Did I misunderstand? Should I have gotten an owl?"

"No, Lysander, honey," Cho said, smiling. "You did fine."

"Are you all right?" Albus whispered against Helena's ear once the Firewhiskey bottle lay empty in the middle of their loose circle. They sat on the floor at the foot of the couch that contained Louis and Atia, who were talking in low voices. Helena was sitting between Albus's legs and leaning against his chest. He reached out to tuck her hair behind her ear. He repeated his question.

"Hmmm...?" she asked sleepily. "I am fine," she answered, though her voice was a little slurred.

"I'm afraid you might have had a little too much to drink," he teased, giving her cheek a little kiss.

She turned around until she was kneeling and facing him. She put her arms around his neck. "Do you remember our first kiss?" she asked bluntly.

"Of course," Albus said, holding her chin and bringing her face closer. He kissed her.

"Look, Albus!" Helena clutched his arm as they entered the Great Hall. He turned to see a group of faeries flitting around in a corner before they dispersed and zoomed upwards towards the ceiling. He smiled, amused at her childlike amazement at Flitwick's decorations. A Beauxbatons student sped past them and Helena leapt out of the way. Albus caught her gently. Albus glared at the rude visitor, but Helena only laughed. "Things are far too beautiful to be angry about anything," she declared.

Albus smiled at her. "You bet."

They exited the Great Hall silently, her small hand in his larger one. The dancing had become quite wild and Helena did not like being jostled. They opted for a slow stroll. They emerged onto the courtyard. Albus stopped and Helena followed, looking up at Albus with inquisitive eyes. He picked her up and perched her on top of the railings. She smiled quizzically, tilting her head. Albus reached into his pocket and presented something to Helena.

"Mistletoe?" she asked.

"Yeah," Albus said. He held it over her head. "There might be nargles in them, though," he teased. "Are you willing to take the risk?"

Helena smiled and lifted her chin towards Albus. "As long as you're here to protect me."

Helena broke the kiss and pouted. "Oh, you just ruined it," she teased. She fumbled for something in her pocket. Albus looked at what she was doing. Finally, she pulled out some dried leaves. She showed it to Albus. "I think the nargles are all gone," she told him as she dangled it over Albus's head.

Albus laughed. "Well, if there are any left, I'm here to protect you."

Helena laughed and kissed him. The pressed mistletoe lay on the dark blue carpet, completely forgotten for the moment.
