Rosalind laughed as she grabbed Lily's hand and dragged her along the streets of Hogsmeade. Lily fought to catch up with her, but was laughing nonetheless. They stopped in front of Honeydukes and Rosalind pushed the door open. Once they were inside, Rosalind shook the ice off the top of her head and Lily did the same. The two girls caught each others' eye and laughed again. Rosalind began going down the rows.
"Are you getting James anything?" Rosalind asked, as she checked the price on some Sherbet Balls.
Lily blushed and nearly dropped the jar of Cockroach Cluster she had been carrying. "Oh, why..would I?"
Rosalind raised an eyebrow. "You like him. He likes you. Why wouldn't you get him anything?" she said, checking out the next display.
Lily laughed. "And are you getting anything for all the boys you like and like you?" she retorted.
"You got me there," Rosalind sighed. "But you know it's perfectly different. You and James are seeing each other exclusively and I'm...not."
"Besides, there aren't enough jars of Cockroach Cluster to go around," Lily teased. "All right, I guess I'll get him a scarf or something," she mumbled.
"You exaggerate," Rosalind said dryly, looking at her friend. "Besides, a scarf's too boring. Get something like red-and-gold lace undies and show it off Christmas Eve."
Lily blushed and stepped away as Rosalind tiptoed to reach some of her favorite bonbons on the top shelf. "And are you getting green-and-silver ones for me?" a voice near her ear whispered. Rosalind turned to find herself face-to-face with Rabastan Lestrange. She grinned.
"Oh, honey, but we're not seeing each other exclusively, are we?" she teased. "I can't show you favor over the others. They'd rally."
Rabastan made a little noise of impatience. Rosalind smiled and stepped closer, playing with his tie. "Unless, of course, you give me good reason to buy them..."
"I always give you a good reason," Rabastan replied.
"Oi!" Rosalind turned around as the bell above Honeydukes tinkled. She released his tie abruptly. The expanded Marauders filed in, eyebrows raised.
Sirius stepped forward. "What're you doing here with Lestrange, Lind?" he asked, voice flat.
Rosalind shook her head. "He was just leaving."
James and the others looked at Rabastan seriously. Rabastan sneered and walked over to the counter. He dropped a few galleons and left the store, glaring at Fred and George along the way.
"The boys and I are going down to The Three Broomsticks," James informed Lily. "Would you and Rosalind like to come?" he smiled.
Lily looked at Rosalind. "You boys go ahead. Rosalind and I have some shopping left to do but we'll catch up."
James winked at her before motioning for the others to follow him out of the store. Sirius touched Rosalind's cheek lightly before leaving. "He's one of them, don't forget that."
Rosalind let out a breath as she turned to the rows of chocolates again. "I guess that was my fault," she giggled.
"You think?" Lily laughed, picking up a couple boxes of Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans. "Let's see...James and Sirius, Remus, Peter...the twins...the other twins...Harry, James...Lily and Albus...oh dear, do I have enough money for all these people?" she declared.
"That's what you get for getting married. Figure out who you married yet?" she said. Her son and grandchildren refused to tell her, but with names like James Sirius, it was midly confusing.
"Oh, shut it, Rosalind," Lily said good-naturedly as she dropped all her sweets on the counter. Rosalind followed with her own purchases.
"Well, we'd better hurry if we want to catch Gladrags," Rosalind said as they left Honeydukes. "Who knows how many girls are intending to buy red underwear?"
Lily blushed again and hit Rosalind on the arm with her shopping bag. "I am not!"
"Happy Christmas, Rosalind," Lily said as her roommate sat up. "Presents," she nodded in the direction of a rather large pile at the foot of Rosalind's bed.
"Happy Christmas, darling," Rosalind responded with a smile. "So which one is from James?" she asked.
"He said he'd give it to me later...at the Feast," Lily said, looking at the letter that had come with some sweets from Honeydukes.
"I bet it's red underwear," Rosalind said, laughing as she stood up.
"Will you let that go?" Lily insisted as she began to look at her family's presents. Rosalind walked around to the foot of her bed, sifting through the presents.
"Mama and Papa...Alphonse...Seve and Nasi..." she moved her family's gifts aside with loving care. "Oh, thanks, Lily," she said as she located her friend's present. "Sirius, Charlie...Frank, how sweet...Fred and George, the darlings...mmm, Nikolai and Abraxas...these will be excellent...Antonin? Merlin, I hope this isn't a dead cat...Cedric..." she continued to sift through her presents, and realized one was missing. "Oh, damn..." she muttered.
"Anything wrong, Lindy?" Lily asked, looking up from Harry's present.
"No, nothing...I just hoped...well, since I went through the trouble of getting him...no, never mind," she smiled at her friend. "I'm just being selfish," she laughed. Rosalind stood up, looking at the piles she had made. She picked Nasi's up first, because she loved her little brother's presents. She had only just begun to take the ribbon off Nasi's present when an owl tapped its beak on the window. Lily let it in. It zoomed in and landed on Rosalind's bed.
Rosalind took the package, gave the owl a light petting and thanked it as it flew out the window. She turned the present over and smiled. He had to make some grand entrance. To remind you I'm never just part of the crowd. Enjoy.
She ripped the paper open and couldn't help but hug it to her chest. He had bought them for her! She giggled as she looked at the bonbons she had forgotten at Honeydukes.
Rabastan returned to his dorm room with a small smile on his lips. He'd been annoyed when she ended up thanking half the boys in the Great Hall, himself included, but had been very amused when she'd pulled him into an empty classroom later in the day.
He gave into the temptation of a real smile - no one was around to see it anyway - and pulled the hangings of his bed apart. He raised an eyebrow in amusement. "Happy Christmas, Rabastan."
"Let's see them," he demanded and she complied. "Ah, green and silver. Excellent."
