part i.
Character name: Ilde Decima
Fandom: Original
Species: Naiad (Nixie)
Character powers:
STRENGTHS:
- Influence: Through voice and music, Ilde is capable of influencing the people around her - but it's relatively specific, and functions more as persuasion (or a summoning) than any kind of ability to plant suggestions. She's capable of a subtle kind of compelling (easily avoided by the strong-willed) when she speaks, a stronger variation if she's singing or playing an instrument, and it's stronger again if she does this in the water. While capable of intense control when she's focused on it, the especially strong-willed and those with psychic shielding of their own are capable of resisting. This is not an inherently sexual coercion; Ilde personally is most likely to use it to drown people.
- Charisma: The fae are pretty magnetic, in general, and Ilde is no exception. 'Charisma' is, however, intensely subjective and in Ilde this magic edge usually presents subtly enough that maybe she's just nice to be around, who knows. Still; one on one, she's present, engaging, and there is a pull to her that's perceptible to the magically sensitive.
- Shapeshifting: The Nix are rumoured to not have natural forms - certainly it's hard to know what they actually are when this particular species of fae is so able to change at will. Ilde does have one, but she's additionally capable of changing her form - in freshwater (not a huge fan of salt water) she prefers a fishtail, but can transform all the way into a fish if she so desires. (Unlikely, mainly because Ilde is not interested in ending up on the end of a fishhook, but theoretically possible.) Her shapeshifting isn't limited to fish variants, but also isn't something she's explored in depth.
- Glamour: Being very visibly inhuman is not necessarily convenient - especially when discretion is key and the light has a habit of catching on her skin. Separate from shapeshifting, glamour is merely a mastery of illusions; Ilde can seem to appear any way she chooses, from her own previously human appearance to an entirely different look, to doing a convincing impression of vampirism. Her glamours are impenetrable to the naked eye (though she sometimes appears slightly too vivid, oversaturated in comparison to humans around her), but do not conceal her fey nature from those familiar with what they're looking at. Glamours do not hide the coolness of her skin to the touch (which is actually useful if she wants to impersonate a vampire).
- Water: It is physically impossible to drown her. Fresh water lends her strength, speeds her healing process and grounds her in herself; everything is better when she has steady access to a fresh water source, preferably a waterfall or a river, but a lake will do. Ilde's power is amplified and at its height in close proximity to water.
- Faerie magic: Elemental and impulse-driven, faerie magic is something that Ilde is capable of but not at all trained in, which results in her sometimes reaching for power in self-defense with no real knowledge of exactly what she's about to do. The words 'trial and error' spring to mind.
- Sensitivity: --to magic, to other faeries, to the supernatural in general. Ilde can feel magic almost like a taste, a scent, a muscle-memory; she can differentiate between different types and different people's signatures with practise. (She doesn't see through glamours, per se, but will recognize them for what they are.)
- Music: As a result of her nature, the fact that Ilde studied music is the laziest thing on earth; she can't not be good at this, it's innately tied to what she is. Her particular instrument of choice is the cello, but being what she is, she could probably play almost anything she picked up - with a particular aptitude for stringed instruments.
WEAKNESSES:
- Iron: Ilde can be bound with iron - it weakens and pains her, and iron is the only kind of weapon capable of leaving a scar on her. Injuries inflicted with iron will heal sluggishly and are more likely to kill her without careful treatment. Iron-treated water was used to keep her alive but substantially weakened in captivity.
- Partial deafness: Ilde's ears aren't like human ears, are not really designed to best function above the water, and as such her natural hearing is now slightly impaired on dry land. As a result, she lipreads and has a tendency to talk slightly louder than is necessary (in order to hear herself).
- Water: The lack of it literally saps her will to live, and if she's kept away from it long enough and permitted to dry out, it can kill her. If kept away from a fresh water source for a prolonged period, Ilde will become melancholic and listless, uninterested in the world around her and mentally checking out. She will typically find herself drawn to water sources of her own accord, and it tends to be a matter of how difficult it is to get there.
- Vampires: The fae are delicious - specifically, they are an intoxicant. A full-blood fairy would be roughly the equivalent of trying and failing to drink Kai under the table; with her power boosted by the storms, Ilde is close to that.
- Alcohol: Not only is Ilde an intoxicant, she's a cheap date. The fae are massively more susceptible to human alcohol than...humans, generally; there are probably toddlers who could hold their liquor better than she can. She gets drunk fast, though in general she's a laidback, talkative drunk and it tends to be the content of her conversation that gives her away. That and the fact she falls over when she stands up.
- Ignorance: Ilde doesn't fully understand what she is, how to control all of it, or the implications of her nature in general - this makes it potentially easy for someone more familiar with the supernatural than she was before the decimation to use it against her, possibly through manipulation.
part ii.
1.) Is it acceptable for your character to be mind-controlled or persuaded? How susceptible are they to mind control, hypnotism, or suggestion? I would like to avoid it, in general; Ilde is not particularly susceptible to this, capable of recognizing it for what it is. Someone significantly more powerful than she is would be capable of getting past that.
2.) Is it acceptable for your character to have their mind read? Does this include traumatic memories? What is their mind like (disturbing, orderly, joyful, surprisingly empty, etc.)? If the character has psychic walls or preventative measures against psychic interference, please explain. Yes indeed it is! Please hit me up if you're interested in having your character read Ilde's mind, so we can make sure we're on the same page about what you'll find. In general, Ilde's mind is disorganized, her thoughts are a bit disjointed, there's a lot of trauma and compartmentalizing going on.
3.) Are thoughts mentioned in narration acceptable for a telepath to pick up? Yes! But again, double check with me in IM to be sure.
4.) What about emotions, in the case of an empath? What sort of general emotional reading would such a character receive from yours? A general emotional reading of Ilde would probably get a lot of subdued anxiousness, but it's dependant on the situation and you should hit me up!
5.) Are there any aspects of your character's mind, emotions, or memories you would like to be picked up, mentioned, or used in character? Conversely, is there anything that should not be noticed, or at least never mentioned? Picking up pretty much anything we've discussed is cool, but please do not broach the topic of Ilde's captivity with her without my permission. Her discussing it is one thing, but it being brought up by a telepath out of no where would be a problem for her.
part iii.
1.) Physically speaking, what stands out about your character? Imposing size? Physical scarring? Tattoos? Ilde has one tattoo (a black ribbon tied around her thigh, knotted without a bow) which is visible when she wears shorts, short skirts, or anything sheer. Without her glamour, she is visibly inhuman, but trust me, I'll let you know if she's dropping that.

2.) Is your character immune to any of the following: poisons, chemical agents, telekinetic influence, radiation, or types of illnesses? Not really, no. She's actually more susceptible to a number of things.
3.) Is your character physiologically different from a human in any way? This can include their blood, skin, hair, et cetera being made up of something unusual or simply differing in construction and durability. Ilde is a naiad, which in her case basically means she's a freshwater mermaid and a river creature. Her ears aren't designed for dry land, and she is partially deaf above the water. Her blood is a delicious intoxicant to those who drink blood.
4.) Are you amenable to having your character be harmed in any way? How far are you comfortable with injury to you character going? Does this include being fed on by vampires, willingly or unwillingly? If Ilde gets befriended by vampires, she would probably be willing to share some of her blood. (Mentioned above: it is an intoxicant.) I am down with her being injured, but I would prefer no character death.
5.) Is it acceptable for other characters with abilities of shapeshifting or disguise to imitate your character? Does this include ability mimicry? Absolutely! They would probably have difficulty doing a fully convincing impression of Ilde, due to the fact that parts of her appearance are subtle bleed-through of what she is vs. the glamour she uses to pretend she's human.
part iv.
1.) Can your character's presence or aura be noticed by other characters, and how would it look/feel to them? How would it manifest to a character with no supernatural abilities, if at all? To a baseline human, Ilde is indefinably 'off' somehow; too real, too vivid, like oversaturated colours on an oil painting, in comparison to humans around her. To those familiar with the supernatural, they would be able to identify the fact that she is, and those particularly familiar may realize that she's a fairy.
2.) Can your character be affected by magic spells and curses? Indeed she can! She can also be trapped and/or bound by them, if for some reason someone wants to steal a fairy. (I don't advise that, her buddy Sonja is kind of triggerhappy.)
3.) Can your character be affected by sin and corruption, and be tempted toward expressing their darker urges (of whatever flavor)? Ilde, like most fey creatures, is about 90% whim at any given moment. So...yes.
4. What sort of sins is the character prone toward, and how might they best be tempted, if you are interested in such an event? Lust (she'd probably be more casually promiscuous if she weren't a bit socially awkward following five years in captivity), wrath (Ilde is developing a habit of stabbing things that make her unhappy, which in the apocalypse is called 'a survival trait'), sloth (APATHY).
5.) Are you amenable to the character receiving prophetic visions, including as part of a plot? I totally am.
part v.
1. Is threadjacking allowed? Under what circumstances? It is generally, but please double-check with me first; a conversation might be ~going somewhere~ that I do not yet want interrupted. Etc.
2. Is it acceptable for canonmates that are updated further than yours to inform your character of events yours has not yet experienced? Y...es. But I don't see that coming up.
3. Are there triggering or upsetting topics you would like other characters to avoid mentioning to yours for the sake of continued comfort (racist words, homophobia, self-injury, etc.)? My rule of thumb here is that I can deal in fiction (usually; I'll have a quick word with the other typist if I can't), but I prefer people not to oocly be dicks. So...don't be a dick and we're cool.
ICly, Ilde's hot button triggers are primarily (but not entirely limited to) scientific experimentation and prejudice related to species. Depending on circumstances and severity, she may remove herself from a situation or conversation, or she may simply lash out, experiencing a PTSD-based response rather than a rational one. If you are interested in positive CR with her in the future, setting her off this way will effectively rule that out, so please bear that in mind!
4. Are there any additions you would like us to make to this survey? Looks good to me.
