The first time I had a Kaiserbrötchen, I thought it was stale, since it had such a hard crust. And, DARK bread. It took me forever to get used to dark bread after growing up on American "cotton bread." Now, I can't live without the stuff.

Right next to Aufseßplatz there is a wonderful little Fränkische Bauernladen, that has a nice selection of breads (I preferr the one with Sunflower seeds). It also has a counter with a nice selection of Wurst, Schinken, Käse and Fisch. Yesterday, when we did our weekend shopping, we didn't get out in time to go there, so we went into the city and picked up our bread from the open market, which has been displaced by the construction for the Christkindelsmarkt.
