This may be a really stupid question, but why does Trader Joe's care if their garbage is taken? What does it have to do with the service they pay for? Unless the dumpster diver is leaving what they don't want all over the ground instead of in the dumpster....

To break it down, it's not really garbage, until it hits either a recycling center or a dump, the dumpster is a storage container until someone they haved paid a fee to hauls it away for them. It's the same as someone stealing a box of cookies or package of cheese from inside the store. It's their merchandise to deal with as they see fit, on their property that the rent out from the lanlord (Mr. Intel, yep that's his name!).

If that makes any sense.
