Birthday

Sep 25, 2006 16:23

I would say that this year has to be the most low key, quietest birthday I've ever had. Being my third birthday away from Hawaii, they've been getting steadily quieter and more low key. Mostly because I haven't felt like oragnizing a party or anything in my own honor. It's one thing to do it in Hawaii, where people would probably be asking me ahead ( Read more... )

Happy Birthday... I'll probably try to give ya a call in a lil' while.

Geez, I didn't even know you were taking a class this semester. Excuse me while I build up more envy. Dangit, sooo many people are in school this semester.

Heh, we haven't bought a board game in over a year.

It sucks to think of buying anything since Last Santuary AND Kailua Geckos closed. Other Realms doesn't do board games. It's sad. I think we'll limit our game buying to mainland trips and ordering now.

Of course, the game playing group isn't very solid anymore. We only get together with Rob every once in awhile. I think it might be up to me to get a game session together. But even I've lost the drive since we don't have any new games.

Well, I'll call ya later.

If I had to pay for them I wouldn't be taking anything. But I work here, so I might as well take advantage of the tuition benefits. I like being able to take classes and not be actively pursuing a degree. It's much more pleasant ( ... )

Oh, I agree with yer mom. lordosis September 25 2006, 21:59:52 UTC
Ya know, I'm also thinking that going out to eat with friends on my birthday is less than satisfying.

I'm starting to think a regular ol' potluck would be better. But screw it, next year I'm not planning anything for my birthday. I'll be turning 30 -- Shelly made offers to plan something for me. And I'm gonna stick it to her next year. Heheheh...

You only think you're gonna stick it to me. Be afraid, be very afraid.

Happy Birthday, Rochelle! I think I'll actually be in Hawaii the whole time you guys are here so we should do a mass birthday dinner. I'll get Y to bake a cake or something for you.

Heh heh, Shelly's gonna stick it to Amy!

Thanks!! Wow, you'll really be around for the whole x-mas/new year time? ...does that just mean there aren't any kendo tournaments or trips happening at the same time? *hee* just kidding. I'm glad, the last couple of times have been so hit or miss, it'll be nice to see you and hang out for more than a couple hours.

Maybe we should do a big cooking/potluck/dinner thing, like Amy suggested above. We'll just have to determine what residence is best suited for it. And I feel bummed that I don't get to share my cooking experiments with you guys, so it's be neat to be able to make something for everyone.

I'm taking my trip early in December this time. I'll be back by the 15th.

If I'm on speaking terms with my pops we could always do it at my place (don't you love how dirty that sounds?). You know what'd be fun? Doing a "traditional" holiday dinner. Like a making a Christmas goose. Or that chicken stuffed in a turkey thing.

I'm taking one class for now. Technically I'm allowed 2 a semester. If they're undergrad it's free, if they're grad level I pay the taxes on it, but the tuition is free.

21...we more like stayed home and drank. Me, Seth, and J I think....

Quiet birthdays, I can handle that.

More envy... lordosis September 26 2006, 21:44:24 UTC
Do they have very many interesting undergrad courses? Isn't CMU kinda a techie school?

Some. CMU is known primarily for the following: Computer Science, Engineering, Drama/Fine Arts, and Business. But I've heard impressive things about various faculty in other departments as well, including psychology. For folks like us the pickins can be slim, but I've found some genuinely interesting courses that I hope to take at some point. My Irish History TA is actually from Dublin and working on his PhD, so I think I lucked out. I intend to continue taking undergrad courses while I'm here just for fun and cause I can.
