Upon returning from Vegas, J came down with an awful chest cold. He's mostly better now, and I'm only kind of sick. So, he hasn't had a chance to make an ftp server for everyone to exchange Vegas pictures just yet. It'll happen though, promise ( Read more... )

I just don't know how you compare watching something on tv to a live act. It's apples and pears to me. It's beyond my tired brain's poor ability to comprehend.

Varekai, that's the one. Just googled... Varekai is the one that the tv show followed the 'making of'. Fire Within is the name. That was quite interesting.

Ugh, I need shower.

I think you misunderstood me. It's not that I have a problem with paying. I think seeing something live is usually better, because the experience is better. Absolutely. If I saw O on dvd, I don't think it would compare at all to seeing it live. It was phenomenal live. My disappointment with Ka was its quality. I've seen 3 cirque shows live and somewhere between 2 and 4 on dvd/tv and out of all of them, Ka is pretty much at the bottom. I thought, with a few exceptions (the hamster wheel), it was not as physically impressive as the other shows I've seen. The pre-show (with people climbing about all over) was one of my favorite parts.

It's not the price itself. It's the price for what I felt was a less impressive show. I didn't think the physical acts were as impressive or difficult as others I've seen, both live and on tv/dvd. Given the chance, yes live all the way. The experience is worth it. But, in my opinion, this experience just wasn't that phenomenal. Maybe I'm just a snob, but I expected better, that's all.

I think the stage production itself - costumes, the movings stage, etc, were really cool, but I was underwhelmed with what was done with it. It was kind of like watching a movie with great special effects but bad acting, sure it's pretty, but that's about it.

Do you have any pastry shops where you are? I can't stand buttercream frosting. It seems like all there is around here is buttercream frosted grocery store cakes and doughnuts.

I can bake a little, but I don't have your magic touch, and it seems like the only time I get any good pastry type deliciousness is when I visit Hawaii!

There is apparently an amazing french bakery (run by a french guy!) about 10 minutes from my house. I've never been there, but my sister in law brought be pastries from them once and they were quite yummy. The whole foods that we usually shop at has some decent (or at least very pretty and very expensive) pastries, but unless it's my birthday, I don't really buy them. I'm not extremely fond of buttercream, I mean it certainly has its place, but I tend to associate it with crappy store bought cakes that people buy for birthdays or picnics. I don't like cakes with a shit tonne of frosting on them anyway (and most cakes with that much frosting are sporting buttercream), but when I make frosting it's pretty much always cream cheese or whipped cream. I feel your pain. That must suck ( ... )
