Doll Notes

Someone once told me that once you mess with a Tolly Tot dolls hair it is messed up forever.  Last night I decided to give Simi a shampoo and conditioning. It actually washed up beautifully, it felt closer to human hair than any of the other dolls I've worked with. I decided to do Lacy's hair as well. Eventhough she came with lots of curly sausage like curls they were really tight and it felt like plastic or like someone put too much hair gel or hairspray on which made it really hard and difficult to style outside of a mass of tight Shirley Temple curls.  Well I decided to see how and if it would wash (I had a backup plan of doll wigs coming in just in case the hair was dry rot or fell out) . Once her hair was washed I was pleasantly surprised to find what I swear reminded me of long naturally curly hair. It felt soft and beautiful!  She had lots of waves.  I put it up in rollers and when I took them out they actually turned into beautiful long sausage curls that looked a lot like the ones used for Catherine Graces daughters hair for the steampunk costume.  PERFECT!!!  I really can't wait to recreate the steampunk look more than ever!  I plan on spending time this weekend working on it and my own outfit.  I also want to try curling my Abby's hair that way and see how it will look. Yes I'm still making a Victorian Absynthe fairy out of the Wicked Witch of the West doll.  I think it will turn out really beautiful especially with the fabric since she is a fantasy piece afterall. I still will make her a traditional woodland fairy outfit but this one is a personal project I'm truly looking forward to doing.
