Who'd-a thunk it?

Now I like to play many roles in life, but last night was not uninteresting. Mira, the daughter of a friend of mine, had her 18th birthday party at the Speakeasy last night, and I was the authority figure/head chaperone of the party -- translation: I was 'the Man' there to make sure the brats didn't misbehave.... (pause for laughter, fuck you very much).

This wasn't my first barbecue, natch, as we've had plenty of teenagers who've invaded the bar over the last 2 years -- rowdy rock'n'rollers, indys and gothies alike-- only this crowd was more your average, middle-class, well-bred bunch from a different neighborhood of Berlin, who've now been initiated into the time-warp of the Speakeasy.

No broken glasses or broken hearts this nite, they were content just to hang out, sample some of bartender Coco's finest Cocktails, and shake their awkward booties to crappy music. Her father was present also, at the birthday girl's request, and he and I naturally coordinated our outfits-- classic lodge apparel: black suit, white shirt blaquetie. He was giddy being the doorman, czecking guests off the list, and I managed to carry myself as the quiet, mysterious, authority figure, whose cover later got slightly dispelled when I had to jump behind the bar to help out with drinks & actually/y'know speak to people.

Trotzdem, I had managed to refrain from drinking most of the night, (applause- nice hand).

This role made me happy, and I'm glad I'm not a teenager anymore -- I'd hate to go through that shit again... I feel pre-pubescent lately anyway.

About 2:30am, it didn't seem like the crowd was thinning quickly enough, and though I normally stay to the bitter end to lazily clean up the place, I frankly couldn't handle the crappy music that this crowd brought mit to play -- so I took off early to go home and improve my online Omaha skills in my underwear, or lack thereof.

The TOP 3 Songs from the evening:

3- Stray Cats - "Rock this Town" (I was surprise to hear this 'oldie', till i went in the back and realized Dad had taken over the DJLappy for a three songs set, which ended up including two repeat plays of "Rock This Town, by none other than the Stray Cats)

2- Lady Sovereign - "Love Me or Hate Me" (still onea my faves- love the swine-tail 'do from this bastard tard lovechild of at least two Spice Girls - sadly, already in the retro bin)

1- Rhiana -"Shut Up and Drive" (great ROCK song from alleged R&B phenom, who forever changed the English word 'umbrella' to include a few extra syllables -- and gave us a good way to get rid of those pesky vowels with more tolerant scrabble playerz).

Continual ruminations on starting to feel my age. How does this happen?

Off to sundial slumberland...
