i just finished reading more about Einstein and i almost feel like my head is never going to be the same. i knew what the theory of relativity was in a basic way, but now i'm reading about the bend of space and time in the fourth dimension as an object's gravitational force pulls another object towards it along the curve of spacetime. but ( Read more... )

we're doing special relativity in physics class right now.
first we derived the lorentz transformations mathematically.
then we did it graphically, rotating our axes and such.

that was awesome.

and oh yes, einstein was smart.
why, he figured out space-time is non-eucledian.
yay!

i just read about the lorentz transformations too! i almost can't believe that you, someone i know, has the ability to understand the math behind it!

the most daunting thing about all this stuff is first you realize how hard you have to think to understand these concepts that have already been invented. (the only reason i stay awake in that +2 hour class is the amount of attention one must direct to the professor-man).

then you realize how much harder it must've been to conceptualize all this in the first place, without anyone telling you you're right.

that's what makes einstein a genius.

(today we derived e=mc^2 using momentum in special relativity, now that was cool)

That's really funny. I just read a section about that today in my book on the ten-dimensional theory. But don't worry, you're nowhere near as nerdy as I am, as I'm reading this for myself, not for class.

Oh yeah, and I think Einstein was a G moreso because of his grouping space/time into one category and mass/energy into another. Using those groupings, your original statement still applies (so time is bent near a large energy source or space is bent near a large mass).

...man, I'm a nerd.
