ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER
GENERAL
[Name:] Ema Skye
[Age:] 19
[Gender:] Female
[Marital Status:] Single
[Sexuality:] Heterosexual
[Occupation:] Forensics Student, UCLA-but can often be seen around the precinct trying to “help” the forensics department with cases.
[Ladder Preference:] Scientifically speaking, they're ladders. The step is unnecessary.
CONNECTIONS
[Family:]
Parents: deceased when Ema was young
Sister: Lana Skye. Ema's big sister also raised her, and she's the person Ema loves most in the world. Whatever Lana does couldn't possibly be wrong-the lying and stuff she's done in the past was done with the best of intentions. Ema worships the ground Lana walks on, and would do anything Lana asked her to without question. Her biggest fear is letting Lana down, after all Lana's done for her.
[Friends:]
Phoenix Wright: Ema loves Phoenix too, almost as much as she loves Lana. She's not likely to forget the favour he did for her and her sister, and she looks at him as kind of a big brother/guardian figure. She'd do anything to repay his favour, and she'll be shocked and furious to find out he's disbarred. Ema is also willing to babysit Trucy for free, search for proof of Phoenix's evidence, and otherwise try to comfort him in any way she can think of. Since Ema's not too good at comforting, this may have mixed results, but it's the thought that counts, right?
[Enemies:]
Klavier Gavin: When Ema was studying in Europe, Lana's coroner friend, her guardian, knew Ema had a soft spot for prosecutors and could use someone on whom she could practise her German, and so introduced her to a young acquaintance of hers-Klavier Gavin. When Ema met him, he hadn't started the band yet. He was just a talented kid a bit younger than herself who was handsome, charming, loved his older sibling, training to be a prosecutor, wore purple (which is almost pink), and seemed to really like her...and she was foreign and older and exciting to Klavier. It seemed natural that they'd hit it off, and get into a relationship. However, shortly before game start, Klavier got an opportunity in L.A., and broke it off with Ema without a second thought so he could move to L.A. and take it. She was heartbroken, and it only got worse when Lana's friend died and Ema had to go to back to L.A. to finish her studies. She'll swear up and down that her hatred for Klavier stems purely from the mockery he makes of the high office of prosecutor by also being a rockstar, and won't even admit to herself that that's not the whole reason. He's a glimmerous fop and she hates him, isn't that enough?
[Other:]
Miles Edgeworth: When it's said that Ema worships the ground Lana walks on, that's meant metaphorically, to imply she really, really loves her big sister. When it's said she worships the ground Edgeworth walks on, however, that's meant completely literally. She used forensic science to track his footprints and all but stalk him. She thinks Mr. Edgeworth is the ideal of a prosecutor, and fancies herself in love with him. He's perfect, after all, and Ema loves 0% error.
CHARACTER
[General personality:]
This Ema isn't the naïve little girl you see in AA, nor is she the bitter, jaded woman who appears in AJ. Instead, she's a mix of the two. She loves science with a childlike fervour and is eager to show anyone with the least bit of interest how her latest scientific toy works. If you know what buttons to push, she's not terribly hard to manipulate. Though she is 19 and far more mature than she used to be (she claims), she still loves the colour pink, signs her name with a heart at the end, and keeps her evidence notes in a little pink PDA. Ema is determined and a hard worker when it comes to things she's interested in, tirelessly going over crime scenes and anything else she's “investigating” to make sure she doesn't miss a detail. On the other hand, if Ema's not “impressing” you with her science, she's likely to head right past you. Ema is singleminded to a fault and though she never misses a detail of a crime scene, she could skip over a person outside of one with somewhat frightening ease. Because science is a discipline of right and wrong, and Ema sees law as guilty or not guilty, she's a person of absolutes. Either you're awesome or awful, good or bad, there's not an in between where Ema's concerned. Cliché though it is, Ema is exceedingly clumsy. This is due to either her enthusiasm or her boredom, depending on what she's doing-she's either so excited she bounces around and knocks things over, or so bored she gets careless and knocks things over. This is a huge detriment in her investigation of crime scenes. She would love nothing more than to overcome her flaws-she realizes them in general terms, though not the reasoning behind them-and become a real forensic scientist so good that no prosecutor would ever have to falsify evidence.
[Appearance:] Ema wears her outfit from AAI, since this RP is set shortly afterward.
[Background:]
Ema's memories of her parents are fuzzy at best. All she knows is that her sister Lana is the one who really raised her, and she truly loves Lana for it. That's not to say that Ema and Lana always got along-both sisters had and still have a fairly strong belief that they know best, at least where the other is concerned-but they were certainly closer than most siblings.
The SL-9 case really tore Ema up. Any 15 year old who went through that would be upset, and to make matters worse, she suddenly found that her sister had turned into a whole other person just when she needed her most. Suddenly, her warm, caring Lana was cold, stern, and unforgiving, and she never seemed to smile, even at Ema. Ema decided that she could help, and started to throw herself into science classes at school. She knew how hard it was on Lana when there just wasn't enough evidence to prove something she knew was true, and maybe all the horrors of SL-9 could have been prevented if the forensic scientists on the case had been better. The only way Ema knew how to fix things was to do them herself, and so she vowed to become the best forensic scientist in the world and work alongside her sister to bring killers to justice.
Of course, that was before State v. Skye, in 2017. When Ema found out what Lana had done, at first she was incredibly upset-her perfect big sister, lying and falsifying evidence? It couldn't be true, it just couldn't. However, once Ema understood the reasoning and the whole story, she was even more proud of her sister than she had been, and thought it was completely unfair to send a person like her sister, who had good motives, to jail. Still, the law was the law, and Lana had broken it. She sent Ema to stay with a friend of hers in Berlin, and Ema started studying at Humboldt University of Berlin. Ema learned German by being tossed into the deep end, sink or swim, though for some help, Lana's friend introduced her to Klavier [see their blurb above].
Ema was on track to graduate in 2022 with a degree in forensic science, she had a cute boyfriend-everything seemed to be going well for her...until it all came crashing down in less than a month. She returned from her spring break in America to learn that Klavier was leaving her for the city she'd just visited, heading off to be a prosecutor without so much as an auf wiedersehen. Ema had barely made it through her heartbreak over that when Lana's friend died, quite suddenly, of a heart attack. Without a guardian or anything else tying her to Berlin, Ema went home to complete her degree at UCLA, hoping to take the forensics exam a year later than she'd planned and join the LAPD Forensics department. Much to her chagrin, Klavier had just started working with the prosecutor's office, and was closely associated with the precinct she liked to hang around. Ema professes her hatred for him loudly and clearly to anyone who will listen, though she tends to simply ignore Klavier unless he pushes her into snapping (not that that takes much, her temper isn't particularly long). Ema frequently visits Mr. Wright and her sister, in addition to working on her studies. All in all, she seems on track for a forensics career and a mostly happy future, despite her recent misfortunes.
