Dinner on Serenity

Jul 04, 2007 14:09

It's dinner time on Serenity. The table is loaded with plates and dishes, chairs are pulled up and the crew is gathered. Naomi sits in her high chair and conversations are starting.

[This is a very loose thread. Feel free to start conversations, interrupt others, etc. I figure we can slowtime this to hell and post it pre-Mal/Kaylee explosion :D]

"I am not doin' dishes tonight," Mal announces to the table at large. "Folk keep skippin' out right before the end o' dinner so's to leave me holding the bag."

An eye toward Jayne, who probably doesn't notice it.

"Not my turn on the roster," Kaylee says mildly, picking up her chopsticks. "Don't look at me."

Mal shrugs, jabbing at something almost recognizable on his plate.

"Hey Kaylee," knife slicing into food all the while, "What're you workin' on at the moment? Anythin' immediate?"

Inara looks across the table. "Can you pass me the potatoes, Jayne?"

Jayne doesn't seem to have heard her. Simon's close enough to reach; he picks up the dish and passes it to Inara.

A few seconds too late, Jayne turns and aims a scowl at Simon.

"Change your name, guàipĭ de rén?"

"You seemed busy," he says reasonably.

River has chopsticks. And a fork, just for redundancy.

She's ignoring both at the moment in order to eat green beans one by one with her fingers.

Naomi's trying out more and more solid foods, and not showing signs of being a particularly picky eater.

This is something of a relief for Zoe, but also means that Naomi has a wider range of things to make a mess with.

"I think we're gonna have t' work harder on the difference between mealtime and playtime," Zoe mutters to no one in particular, determinedly wiping her daughter's mouth again.
