It was perfect.
Everything seemed to fit together in pieces, sliding together to create the truth of everything. Who he was, and more importantly - what he was. Slaving over the scripts thrown before him, scattered, and devouring every single word as if he were starved from feed. Clinging to every single word as if they were the solid lifeline he had craved for since birth. The contact never received. The truth, withheld.
It was maddening.
Feline eyes transfixed at the texts, and looking about them as gospel; believing them as so too. It made sense! Everything was... Was Genesis right? If these were correct then it was so, and he couldn't quite seem to ignore the chill that slid around his breast. The sharp prick of pain that was nothing compared to Hojo's needles - though this changed nothing.
Hojo. Ah, there came the spite. The pain and misery at the name. The resentment. The monster.
But wasn't he a monster too?
He wasn't human.
This conclusion was nothing new - he had, perhaps, known this for a very long time. Maybe even before through subconscious awareness. There was never a doubt he was different from his subordinates. His allies. It was only comforting that some of the time, they weren't quite human either.
At least Angeal and Genesis, anyway.
It was becoming nothing more than a painful cycle. Going back to pick up the broken glass, only to get pricked again and again - but to never learn not to stop. Perhaps it was curiosity overriding instinct - or perhaps he was, himself, too broken to care. It really didn't matter in the end. He wasn't human.
Zack had been wrong the entire time.
A violent reaction was expected sooner or later, but his mind, still adjusting to the idea of him being the last or the Ancients - nothuman - and drinking every last drop of the information this petty library had to offer, had little thought of such movements yet.
He wasn't human.
He wasn't sure what to think.
It was maddening.
He wondered absentmindedly if the shrill buzzing he was hearing was caused by a temporary (or possibly permanent) lapse of sanity that this was entire ordeal was causing. At the same time he wondered if Zack would come back to try to retrieve him again. Not that he didn't appreciate the offer - but it would be no doubt that the other First-Class would disapprove of this entire attempt to discover his past, and discourage him from the task entirely.
He knew everything couldn't go back to 'normal' after this. Sephiroth couldn't go back to normal after this. He wouldn't.
He wasn't sure what to think.
Zack has been wrong the entire time.
The shrill buzzing was getting louder, but falling into almost dulcet tones as he was stricken to a standstill. Frozen.
He wasn't human.
He was a monster too.
He wasn't sure what to think.
He didn't have too.
It was maddening.
It was perfect.
