How Shera always managed to be calm, even in a situation such at this--where there were undead things scratching at the windows, he'd never know.

Rocket scientists. Cid was damned glad to be a practical engineer some days, because those ridiculously smart theory sorts like Shera were obviously batshit and disconnected from reality. While she was postumawhatating about giving it brains, he was making a really big club ( ... )

There are these days after the war, days that end in six-hour marathons in the training center, killing everything in sight. Days that have made him resort to keeping a flask of old Trabian whiskey in a drawer, the good stuff (a present from Irvine for his last birthday, and doesn't that just remind him of how old he is. How young he is).

Then there are the other sort of days, the kind that outweigh the need for flask and gunblade and a torch to set all the paperwork on fire. The kind that start with the coffee already made when he gets up, a post-it stuck to the machine telling him to have a good day.

He slips back into the dark bedroom, to the lump of blankets he left, and leaves a kiss on her temple, his personal brand of thank you note.

Awwww. It doesn't have to be long or dramatic to be unique and spot-on. I love the image of Squall dealing with the paperwork in assorted destructive ways.

Even Kimahri partook in the festivities, toasting Yuna's victory in a gathering of Aurochs and Goers who had put rivalry aside long enough to get gloriously smashed in the empty well of the blitzball stadium. Around midnight, Lulu came down to check on her fellow guardians. In particular, she wanted to make sure Wakka's tongue had not been loosened by free-flowing spirits. Inevitably, there had been a few incidents on the pilgrimage that did not bear repeating ( ... )

With that, the giggles gained the upper hand and rendered Rikku helpless for over half a minute. When she could finally speak again, she moved towards Kimahri's head. "I know! It's close enough, isn't it? Though I guess-" She stared down at his broken horn. "Nevermind. Not going there. Okay! Operation Blue Ribbon, beginning now! After all, Kimahri needs a souvenir of his first trip to the rock grinder." With nimble care, she tied the ribbon around his horn and wove an elaborate blue bow. She bent forward to kiss it, then stood. "All righty, then! Let's get going! Wish I could see his face when he wakes up. Or everybody else's faces, if he doesn't notice it there ( ... )
