"Runic. Right." Celes said absently, adjusting her lucky Offering, which was soon to be Shadow's when she died, and her lucky Ribbon, double-knotted, which she hoped to be buried in. Like most Imperial soldiers did before venturing forth into impossible situations, she was loaded down with talismen, most of which were hidden underneath her armor. Perhaps one of them would save her, in spite of her ominous dream.
Eiko trembled. She felt a throbbing sensation in her horn, knowing full well she was about to Trance. Would she be able to keep from killing everybody in the party? She already hit Relm with Holy once...
Relm stayed close to Eiko, reaching out and squeezing her hand as she offered a small smile. "It's okay, sis. We're all here with ya." She had her sketchbook and brush out, potions and other various items she'd thought to bring with from Thamasa.
Though she tried to put on a brave front, feeling the wind begin to pick up caused a shiver to run down her spine. If the storm struck directly here and they didn't seek shelter....but she had faith in Strago. Watching as the old man paced away from the rest and sat down, she wondered if this was really going to work...
Celes wasn't about to touch Eiko or Strago after what happened to her at Thamasa, but she did smile reassuringly at both of the girls. "Don't worry!" She said, feigning absolute confidence in herself. "I won't let anything happen to you, okay?"
Eiko glanced in Relm's direction before focusing her energy into the touch. Perhaps through this, she'd stay under control! She grasped Relm's hand so hard that her little knuckles turned white.
Normally more astute, Relm found Celes's feigned confidence reassuring. No matter what, at least she had friends here. "Okay, Celes. I'm glad you're with us..." She squeezed Eiko's hand, frowning in concern at her sister's nerves. She wanted to ask if Eiko could sense what Grandpa wanted her to find, but didn't dare ask and break her concentration...if Eiko had even started yet.
Deep within the storm, someone flared to consciousness for a brief moment, sensing the small girl who was connected to her by their shared mystical bond....
And isolated from the rest, Strago stayed where he was, seated without any obvious trappings of ritual, though this wasn't the sort that required any. Ignoring the increasing speed of the sharply cold wind, the old man focused on the horizon and chanted softly under his breath, eyes bright as he sensed the pull of the storm...
Mog tilted his head at the feel on the horizon, and moving over to one side of Relm where he drew his spear from his back and looked around wondering if anything would come. He gave Strago a nod and smile to indicate he was ready, "Kupo probably shouldn't try dances right now huh." he sounded disappointment, and even twitched a little bit. It was equally disappointing that he'd probably be fighting stuff rather than watching the coolies ritual thingy.
Relm offered the same smile to Mog, shrugging. "Why not? Maybe it'd help..." She watched Strago curious as the old man began to chant under his breath, but turned back to the horizon as the entire sky seemed to have a reddish cast to it.
(trying really hard not to tangle replies here >.>)
Mog looked at the sky at the same time Relm did. It was awfully pretty to him, it was strange to think that it could be so destructive and nice to look at simultaneously.
He gave a deep breath and for once tried to be serious for once. After all he was defending his home and all of the other moogles now; even if he'd rather be around people than them he stil wanted to make sure they stayed ok. Granted they were in the mines and thus a lot safer than the poor people in town. He successfully stayed serious looking for a few moments before he twitched a bit, lowered his spear in boredom, and looked back at the others again. Twitch.
It was about that time that he was fortunate enough for a small furry monster to fly out of nowhere and cling to the back of his head, "Holy f@#king kupo get it off!" he ran in circles and tried to hit is with his spear, franticly afraid it might hurt his pompom.
Strago continued to sit where he was, no sign of consertation at the storm's approach or the other's combat. He had his part to do and he would carry it out no matter the cost. The area around him was thick with magic, first encircling him, then Eiko. It would have to do more than that if he were to help save Narshe, but first things first. Within the storm, the half-Esper within nearly vibrated with magic, buoyed by the swirling chaos around her. She knew neither fear or despair, though it had been some time since she was capable of much in the way of coherent thought. Still, at Eiko's close presence and Trance, something awoke within the long-dormant magic battery

"STRAGO!" Eiko shrieked as she felt the old man overloaded with magic. She felt it pushing through his veins, forcing the life out of him... "STOP! Please

As the ground trembled, Relm clutched Celes's arm tightly, once or twice moving to dart out only to be thrown back to the ground. Lifting her arm to shield her from the sudden blinding light, she winced and held on tighter. Despite her show of bravery before, all the young girl wanted to do now was find a place to just curl up and hide.
...that wasn't fair, though. Strago and Eiko were out there risking their necks. What if....no, they had to be okay. They just had to be. Once she could see again and the ground was more stable, Relm gave up trying to stay still and darted outside.
Celes braced herself against the tremors and held Relm close. When the flash of light hit her eyes, she buried her face in Relm's hair, as her hands were occupied with shielding the girl from any harm. The next thing she knew, Relm had wriggled free from her grasp and was running toward the light!
Celes leapt to her feet and raced after her. "RELM ARROWNY! WAIT FOR ME! IT'S NOT SAFE!"
Relm didn't listen but fortunately the blinding light had died down by the time Relm reached the cave entrance, breaking into a run as she raced to see what happened to her grandfather and sister. Her voice grew hoarse, calling their names.
Celes drew her weapon as she ran toward the dissipating light. It didn't take much for her to overtake the girl; Celes could outrun everybody except Locke. Seizing her by the wrist with her unarmed hand, she flung Relm's spare frame behind her. "STAY BEHIND ME, UNDERSTOOD?! YOU'RE WEAK!!" She screamed.
Hearing her voice, Eiko sat up and stumbled to her feet. "Lady Celes! It's okay!" She looked away from Strago's still form. "Or maybe it's not, but it is safe!"
