I noticed that a couple of people were interested to know how I colored this image. I finally duplicated roughly the same effect so I thought I would make a tutorial. \o/
*applauds* Thank yooooou soooooooo much! I really appreciate this so thank you, thank you, thank you! ♥ Because some of my icons still reek of noobie. D:
Generally I try not to mess with the neutral setting too much. I just find when I mess with the neutrals it's too absolute? I guess that's the word. Or when I do mess with the neutrals I figure out what color I'm adding the most of. Like in the tutorial icon, I knew I was going to add a lot of blue because I wanted her eye and the sky to look really vibrant, I added a yellow color fill. When I add lots of yellow I usually add a blue color fill layer. Just to make things a little more natural.
I have also found that when I like how the settings are enhancing colors in some parts of the icon that I am happy with but it's ruining others (usually people's faces) I just erase those parts or lower the opacity.
But when it comes to the actual numbers, I have no idea what I am going to use. I just slide the bar until I added or subtracted enough of the color I wanted because I always have an idea of what colors I want to enhance or take away.
I really hope helped somewhat instead of just coming off as me rambling at you. :)
I've started messing with selective coloring more & more--but 'messing around' is exactly what it is! There's no rhyme or reason; I just slide the bar back & forth & hope I don't screw things up too much. ^.~
I like the trick of adding a color fill to help balance things. I'll have to try that.

:( You know I tried to duplicate the same effect with some color balance layers but I'm not smart enough for that, lol!
