OMNOMNOMs

Program: Photoshop 7
Difficulty: Easy
Time: about 10 minutes

Ok, OMNOMNOM!Raslercat is as easy to make as getting pregnant by a sparkly vampire. Here we go.

So the original OMNOMNOM!cat was not manipulated by me. But if it were, I would have done it the same way, with low opacity and masks. I found him on the best LOLcat site ever and resized him to not break my own layout.

And I can't find him again, so we're going to use catshark instead.

I ran Filter -> Sharpen -> Unsharp Mask, with the settings below, mostly because I run this filter on everything. My monitor is old, and so everything looks a little blurry. My eyes are old, too, and crappy, but Unsharp Mask adds just that touch of clarity without overpixellating the image.

I then added a trendy exclusion layer of #5D0000 and lowered the opacity of this layer to between 50 and 60%. Just because. Then, in the original OMNOMNOM!cat, I just added some text in black, font Impact, with a 2-px white stroke.

Then rusalkatrix asked in jest if that were the provided image. She should know better. Now I had to make it a Final Fantasy image. So I found the picture of Rasler from Creative Uncut, and copied it in a new layer over OMNOMNOM!cat. Then I reduced the opacity of the Rasler layer to 60% so I could see. Then I did some resizing (Edit -> Free Transform, or CTL- T) until Rasler's features and the cat's features roughly overlayed. In the original composite, the cat's head was turned the same way, and the line of Rasler's jaw merged seamlessly with the cat's open mouth. In this one, I'm not so lucky. So I'll center Rasler's head roughly over the cat's and rotate him to the left a bit so that he's more even.

Then I brought Rasler up to full opacity and ran an Unsharp Mask on him too, since resizing him had not been kind to his smooth skin. Now, masks. I love masks. They allow me to make all sorts of easily correctible mistakes. I added a mask to the Rasler layer and filled it with black so he completely disappeared. The, I started at the cat's jawline and painted with a smudgy brush on the MASK in white to uncover as much of Rasler's face as I wanted. Around the edges of the blend, I colored in various shades of gray so the outline wouldn't be so harsh. With masks, the darker the color, the more it's hidden - or the less opaque your image is. So I shaded from white where I wanted full opacity through grey, to black, where I wanted zero opacity. The other Raslercat had a better effect because of the orientation, so I did some more resizing and blending on this one. And then I moved the red exclusion layer to the top, above Rasler so he would blend better, and lowered its opacity to 40% so he wouldn't look so seasick.

To make the icon, I copy-merged to a new layer (CTL-ALT-SHIFT-E). Again, I do this so I can go back and change things if I want to. Then I opened a new 100x100 image, copy and pasted my merged layer into it, and resized and positioned using the Free Transform tool. For this icon, I copy-merged without the text layer, then redid the text in grey so it could be read more easily.

Live in terror, my friends. Rasler!catshark will eat your soul and steal your Playstations.
