You have a great point. Only problem is this guy does fight fire in the field, which means the potential is there. I already had to fight a fire solo once cause the guy I was with couldnt get his shit together (gear and brain).

yeah -- but that is the purpose of training. I remember there's a famous line that goes something like "Train like you battle and battle like you train." Basically if you get knife-edge sharp in terms of skills in practice, then you won't have a problem executing in the field. Hopefully, with time (not too much of course) that Tom fella gets up-to-speed
