Just found this 2008 interview by GW (I believe), who uploaded it 2 yrs later... It's obviously taken before shooting S5, as Joe is asked to disclose "what will happen". He seems genuinely excited about going to Vegas and is pitching Stargate:Vegas.  Vegas, baby!

Yeah, what will happen in Vegas will stay in Vegas LOL.
I love this damned episode so much, I'm really mad about it. So, thank you for your research and posting all these Vegas-related stuff! And (by the way) a happy new year!

I also liked Vegas a lot, not just because "let's make Joe the coolest man on Earth", like David put it recently :), but because I had the opportunity to see Joe playing a slightly different role.

Don't take me wrong, I love Sheppard, with all his qualities and positive attitude, his trust in the team and being so caring and protective etc, etc, but I reaaally believe Joe can do so much more. I'm so frustrated (damn, beyond frustrated!) by the show being over, but I try to see the bright side of that: Joe taking up other roles, as different as possible (while revisiting Sheppard once in a while, for a new SGA movie, maybe? On a yearly basis, let's say? That's what would happen in my ideal world :D)
