Uruha sat in his car, looking over to the airport like he was hypnotised. He knew she was there, waiting to check in, waiting to leave, yet he couldn’t muster up the courage to get out of his car and into the airport.
Since he had practically thrown her out of his apartment he felt guilty for doing so, but his pride forbid him to say sorry in the first place. He still couldn’t understand why she had never really taken it into consideration to look for a job in Japan, although she always affirmed how much Japan felt like home to her after these two years of her studies.
Uruha would be lying if he pretended all of this didn’t get to him at all. Though he wouldn’t dare to speak of love right now, he was quite sure that he was falling in love with her nevertheless. Why else would his heart start pounding in his chest like crazy when he thought of her?
At the same time he was certain that he would forget about her in time. She would be gone, there would be a good 11.000 km separating them, quite a distance for sure, but maybe this distance would help him to get over her.
He glanced onto his watch once more.
8.42 pm
It was now or never.
Finally Uruha unbuckled his seatbelt and got out of the car, dashing towards the entrance with large strides. After quickly checking the schedule in the entrance hall he knew where to go, Gate 13b.
There was a long line of people waiting at the check-in, getting their baggage checked. He scanned the people in front of him, looking out for Nicky, craned his neck to look past the customer service, but she was nowhere to be seen.
“Ah, kuso…” he cursed and furrowed his brows before reaching for the mobile in his pocket. The blonde dialled her number and waited for the reply. The reply he got was “sorry, this number is no longer available”, quite obviously she already had her mobile cancelled because she wouldn’t be able to use it in America anyway.
He felt his heart sink in his chest.
There were so many things he wanted to tell her, things he wanted to say to her face, not on the telephone or through email. But he was afraid he was too late.
Again he scanned the people standing in the line, then turned around to check the schedule once more, maybe he was in the wrong place after all, he just wanted to be sure.
But no matter how exactly he checked the schedule, he couldn’t find her at any of the gates.
He felt like he was starring in a movie with a bad, trashy script as he walked towards the large windows to glance upon the airfield.
Heavy rain poured down upon the ground, the lights of the airport and the airfield, running to large puddles on the tar covering, reflected back to where he was standing. Uruha hung his head and closed his eyes for a second, meanwhile mentally scolding himself for not getting into the airport earlier, for wasting precious time pondering in his car.
He watched the American Airlines plane getting pulled onto the runway and whispered his goodbye’s to Nicky not much later.
A strange feeling of loss and deprivation captured him, it made him shudder, he felt alone despite the busyness of the airport and the different voices mingling and mixing all around him. The noises and voices seemed to be deafening at that time, he just wanted all of them to shut up and be silent for a second, when a familiar voice chimed in, adding to the sounds. “Hey, did I ever tell you that the company I’ll be working for has a local branch here in Tokyo…?”
Uruha spun around in shock and he couldn’t quite believe his eyes. There she was, without any luggage, with just her purse over her shoulder, smiling at him. For a moment he believed his mind was playing tricks on him.
“I already wanted to tell you three days ago, because my boss wasn’t sure if he really wanted me to work here in Tokyo, but then you decided to snap an-” She didn’t get to finish that sentence as Uruha approached her quickly and just kissed her.
“Don’t you ever do something like that again… It was nasty… Women are not supposed to do such nasty things…” he hushed against her lips after a while of kissing her and pulled her into a tight embrace. “I don’t care if it was at short notice… You could have filled me in all along…” He cupped her cheeks with both hands and looked at her intently.
But she just smirked and shrug her shoulders. “Call it shock therapy, Uruha.”
“Shock therapy…?”
“Yes. You had to undergo my shock therapy to finally realise why you want me to stay.” she said with a smile and placed a quick peck on the tip of his nose.
Uruha smiled knowingly and nodded. He had always been certain that women had a sixth sense for feelings. “Ne, Nicky-chan, totemo suki desu.”
“And if you had told me earlier I wouldn’t have to play such stupid games with you…”
“I couldn’t care less right now, Nicky…” With that he pulled her for a kiss once more, one of many kisses that night and the following nights.
