This isn't seen too often on FFR, but when it does, boy does it rear its ugly head.

Let me start with this.

Google'd "define political correctness"

Definitions of political correctness on the Web:

•avoidance of expressions or actions that can be perceived to exclude or marginalize or insult people who are socially disadvantaged or discriminated against
wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn

•Political correctness (adjectivally, politically correct; both forms commonly abbreviated to PC) is a term which denotes language, ideas, policies, and behavior seen as seeking to minimize social and institutional offense in occupational, gender, racial, cultural, sexual orientation, handicap ...
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_correctness

So, having googled that, it makes me wonder how many people even realize what the fuck they're saying when they argue that they aren't PC, or being PC is cowardly/too leftist/whatever I can't even think of better examples. Is anyone else tired of the anti-PC person who, not only fails to realize the entire premise of being politically correct is to not continue the marginalization of a group, but by decrying it as bullshit, they're effectively affirming the marginalized group deserves it?

Fucking a. Being politically correct isn't the end of the world, you aren't going to die if you consider another person's past and choose to not be crude, blunt, or otherwise shit on their day. Being politically correct doesn't fly in the face of being blunt - I've just managed being both, haven't I? And don't even get me started on arguments about the 1st Amendment, because the misunderstanding of THAT is a rant of its own.

I think I've ranted about this next point before, too, in one form or another. The entire reason the concept of politically correct expression came about is because people realized that voicing a bigoted opinion helps to perpetuate it. Even the most well intentioned person can set the wheel of bigotry going. It doesn't matter if you don't believe what you're saying, chances are you're affirming to someone listening that that shit's okay and they should continue to believe and act on it.

This goes beyond words have meanings. The attitude that anyone who takes offense to douchebaggery, beit on the internet or in other media, is just butthurt and should get over it perpetuates bigotry. Is that a hard concept? You tell a marginalized person that they shouldn't be triggered by something you said, or that you did not intend to come off as a dickhole, but they should expect to not be treated like fragile snowflakes on the internet or any of that shit, and not only are you telling that person that their experience doesn't matter, that their pain doesn't matter, you're telling someone else it's okay to put that person down because, hey, they're just a wittle butthurt..

God fucking damnit.
