Okay, guys, I love the Final Fantasy canon pairings. I do. They fill me with joy and warm fuzzies. And I realize that the games may not have the time and resources to fully develop each relationship to the point where it seemed mature and believable. But.. still ( Read more... )

Lulu/Wakka is adorable. I'm not big on Tidus/Yuna, because all I can imagine are whiny babies. At least Lulu/Wakka babies are destined to have cool hair.

Balthier/Fran is totally canon. It's written all over the game. Go play it again. Also, I'm pretty sure Penello/Vaan was canon, too, wasn't it? I mean, they were bending over backward for eachother in FFXII and Revanent Wings.

Hmm, I don't think so on Balthier/Fran... they were no explicit mentions of them being a couple, was there? I don't remember...
I mean, I totally love them together, but I wouldn't call them canon...

I think Vaan/Penelo can kind of be canon, but moreso in Revenant Wings. In XII, to me it was definitely obvious that Penelo had a thing for him, but Vaan was just like, whatevs. xD

Well, I think so anyway, haha.

And I mean, those pairings aren't really part of the story; they're just kind of there. I choose the ones where they kind of have a story going on in the game. ('cept for maybe Bartz/Faris, and Rydia/Edge, and.. a few others perhaps :P) ^^;

But what's canon can always be debated. It gets confusing. xP

Fran/Balthier is totally canon. They show up together, they fly together, they run away together. Even the statuettes are packaged together.

But I think that's 'cause they work together on their little "jobs"? lol. I don't know. I think on the Bahamut was the only time they formally crossed the line over to non-platonic-ness. And the fact they stayed together in the end... well, yea, I think that definitely sets it up and makes you go, "o rly?"

Don't get me wrong, I think they definitely have somethin' goin' on, but I just don't think Square intended for them to be canon per se. I mean, I would think if they did, they would have at least once, just I don't know.. held hands or hugged or referred to each other as a significant other in some way or something .__ ( ... )

I so much agree with everything you said. :D :D :D
(especially Cloud/Tifa ♥)

Except for Tidus/Yuna. ;_; HE WILL NEVER DIE DAMMIT, HE'S IMMORTAL FROM NOW ON :P :P :P

My main concern about him coming back is like, how the hell are they gonna explain that to Spira? Wouldn't the Spirans be like, "dude, what? I know you saved the world, but you can't just come back to life, that's no fair. YOU'RE AN UNSEEENTT, DIEEEE" or something.
Or maybe I'm just a pessimist....

Mmm, I don't know, I think Locke and Celes could work it out! Then again, I didn't think he was batshit over Rachel, so I don't know. Differing opinions there, haha.

Definitely agree with Cloud/Tifa. I kinda don't think she'll ever LET him go. xD Not fully, anyway.

I can see Yuna maturing, too... but as much as I have my doubts about their relationship, like, I can't see them ever breaking up, you know? I almost think she wouldn't want to break up even if they were miserable and she feel in love with Baralai just because it's like... I don't know, they seem stubborn like that. xD

Oops, forgot about Ashe/Dalmasca. And Balthier/Strahl. How could I doubt there was romance in XII!

Oh, and really, Balthier flirted with just about everyone on at least one occasion.

I think so, too. ^^; I mean, as was said, Square left their relationship wiiiide open to interpretation, but wasn't Cloud in his brief appearances in DoC kind of a little more like his FFVII-self? I think that says maybe he's chilled out...

That's just me, an avid Cloti shipper, speaking though. :)

RE: FFXIII, I think I'm going to have to disagree with you. Because, yeah, they were going out with each other before the game started; since they got together months before Serah needed saving of any kind, I'm not sure how he could love an idea of her that had yet to exist. Prophetic delusions? So, what we're left with is a fairly steady relationship, started under very normal circumstances, with evidence that Serah trusts him above anyone and that Snow is not going to give up when things get tough. And it's even implied that they've worked out issues in their relationship before! (It's subtle, but in the scene where she's breaking up with him because of the L'Cie thing, he says something like "Why are you doing this, we've come too far to just end it." So maybe I'm misreading it, but that plus his whole "Come on, babe, let's talk this out," attitude makes me think they've hit a few snags and worked past them. Bottom line, I predict a happy marriage.

(Does that qualify as tl;dr-ing at you? And when did that become a verb?)

Hmm, that's true. His feelings just came off as stronger than most, but you make very good points! I think I'm used to the classic Final Fantasy script where one minute they're like, "NOOOOO OH MY GODS I'M SO DEPRESSEEDDD", and then the next second they're like, "LET'S GO SNOOWWBOARDINGGG YAAAAY".
I have more hope for them now, which makes me happy, 'cause they are an heartwarming pair. ♥

(It became a verb when I used it as such. ;])
