OBLIVION is no more, as i'm typing this the latest incarnation of my computer is on its last backup, going through another massive forced upgrade

again? how many computers has it been!? i'm still using my 2001-era machine: athlon 1700 w/512mb ram.
the only upgrades have been: - new monitor (19" samsung lcd)--to replace the 19" viewsonic crt that died two years prior to that purchase (during which time i was using my P3-933 w/256mb ram laptop if you remember that hunk of junk) - new video card (nvidia something or other i got for about $40 a few years ago for the dvi port) - new hard drive (80gb--which is mostly empty; i'm using about 1.5gb total w/OS+files--to replace the last dead 30gb ibm "deathstar") - dvd burner - tv-tuner card i never used (bought because i thought of taking cu-tv classes, until i realised i actually needed digital cable, which i won't get, for that)
i even got rid of the speakers--this machine does all i need it to do (i guess it helps that i haven't touched windows in years). the only computer purchases i've made in the last few years are a couple of usb memory sticks.
yeah. bad power can kill electronics quite fast. maybe you should invest in a good UPS.
i don't game, so that solves a lot of my problems. not that i'd have time anyways, i work full-time on top of a 60% (technically still full-time) course load at university. i only use the computer on weekends really, except when doing research or writing papers and essays.
i did, however, order ram the other day. I had to get DDR ram for a friend's computer (she's only got 128mb) and realised how hard it is to get these days (never mind how expensive). so i also ordered a 2gb kit for my machine. that should make it last a bit longer, and boost virtualization performance a bit.

I was using most of my original machine from back in ottawa until recently, actually.
That 750gb I picked up is already half-full. :x Yay for living with anime geeks!
