Sounds like you got screwed... But maybe I'm just overly ethical. I would say the "friend/sales person" wasn't much of a sales person or a friend. But then hypatheticaly speaking, I have no idea who you're talking about so my opinion really doesn't count. As for the customers...sadly, I've learned customers are very fickle. Supply and demand and all ya' know. So seldom is business about loyalty anymore; no matter how hard you try.

Thankfully, I didn't get screwed. It's not my situation that prompted my post. I've seen this format for disaster a few times in the past and a recent statement irked me just enough to warrant throwing a post out there.
