"Very good." Lightstone smiled at Whistler, and motioned for her to come sit with him. "I'll be glad to have you, little songbird. And thank you, Alder, for making the offer. It will be good to have your help as well." Hopefully that would bolster the chief's spirits after the scolding Lightstone had given him.
"Go to sleep, cubs," Heartstorm told Gust and Moth, "and when it's time to go, don't moan and groan and whine. You're too old for that." Why am I acting like their mother? the spear-woman asked herself. Had losing Frostbite, Longmane and her unborn daughter hurt her heart so much she was reaching out to young ones? High Ones knew she was certainly keeping Silent close

Whistler gave Alder a fleeting look as she jumped up and quickly trotted over to Lightstone. She arranged herself beside the elder and glanced up at him.
It was her first watch ever, and she hoped she would do it well.
