Back from the wild

kidconcept and I got back from the wilderness of Hoover Forest and northern Yosemite a couple of days ago. After I got over the initial shock of running water, showers, clean clothes, beds, and microwaves, I set about learning how to do cool things with technology. beautiful -- that looks like it was a really fantastic trip. I've been able to spend relatively more time outdoors this year and I wish I had the guts to go backpacking. perhaps someday. :)

Backpacking trips don't have to be intense or super rugged to be good. If you ever decide to try it, you should check out this book and start with a short, easy, two day trip.

ooooh, that book looks great! the big thing for me is that while I think I'm strong enough for the hiking and everything, I have a complete lack of outdoor skillz that would likely be an issue in the immediate future. I'd like to develop them, though. :)

Well yeah, I guess that's another issue. The best thing would probably be to tag along on a trip with someone who has been before to learn the ropes. You can get that knowledge from some reading and trying things out yourself in advance, but that's more difficult.

Stargazing is one of my favorite things about camping. It's amazing to me how brilliant the sky looks without all the excess light pollution.
