Need to protect me from myself

Just had my first tumble off my bike in years. Guess that's what I get for going out biking in the snow/ice. I thought the idea was crazy at first. But then I talked to someone who knew someone who biked in the snow, and then the bike shop person said it wasn't so bad if you're careful, and then I thought to myself, "if Calvin's dad can do it, I ( Read more... )

Well, I'm glad you're not hurt! The stupidest thing I have done in icy weather is leave my spa off, figuring it was an open system and I didn't want to pay to heat it, only to find that when a spa freezes, it cracks the main water manifold. It didn't risk my health, obviously, but $500 and one cracked water manifold later, I felt equally stupid.

Out here, it's freezing for the first time this year tonight. A few minutes ago, I walked out to put a disc in my mailbox, only to find my mailbox was frozen shut. I'm hoping my spa won't suddenly decide to quit on me, and although the icicles are beautiful, the stress of road conditions tomorrow is making me miss California.

I really enjoy the cold and the snow, despite the bad road conditions. If I could could only find a safe, comfortable way to exercise outside during the winter it would be perfect. But I am getting better at dealing with some of these things. While walking my bike across some of the worst patches today I discovered a trick that should have been obvious from the start. If you don't pick up your feet when you walk, you're much less likely to fall on your ass!

I hope your spa comes through this winter intact.
