In the end, the expense had been incredible, but it was worth it.

The main accomplishment was the two buildings; absolutely identical in every way, except for the fact that they resided in different universes. The lobby was bright and friendly for both, with a receptionist team that was helpful and happy to buzz you through the hall door when it was time for your appointment. It was a grand building; a three-story tall brownstone, polished wood floors, and elegant windows. An architectural treasure in the middle of a bustling city.

But it was that hall door that was special. The double air-lock-style doors which had been the biggest expense. The doors, which had been specially crafted in conjunction with a deal with Portalocity.

The receptionist in each world would push the buzzer, the door would activate. People wouldn't notice anything strange as they opened it and walked through, let alone realize they had just inter-dimensionally traveled. They'd walk down the long hall, walls filled with artwork, go up the stairs, and turn right for the office marked 'Priest, ESQ.' or left into 'Frost, PhD' and find the person they needed most. Or possibly stay on the first floor and go around the corner for the Kaeleeran Market Exchange for those specializing in imports and exports, or downstairs for Slayers, Inc. (first office) and de Ulloa Consulting (second office). There was even a door labeled 'Northman Projects LLC,' but the employees apparently kept odd hours.

It had opened up entire new streams of revenue for Portalocity, as they branched out beyond the travel market, and Jack and Emma had been rewarded handsomely for their initial investment. Being stockholders didn't hurt, either. And now multiple worlds had access to resources beyond the wildest imaginings. A lawyer and former consulting detective. A telepathic therapist and educator specializing in metahuman issues. Demon-hunters determined to do good deeds, and a vampire putting centuries of knowledge to work. Occasionally, when they were (un)lucky, small dogs resembling shelties running between offices to nip at their 'people'.

They weren't all in one place, of course. Some of those offices were really in Scotland, Madrid, Rome. Portals within portals, but they could still yell down the hall at each other, work together to fix what needed fixing, without compromising their own missions. They were resources for the people who needed them the most, no matter what dimension they resided in.

In the end, it was what each of them had wanted most; to make a mark, a difference, in the lives of the people around them. To have a chance to prove the world wrong about them and to make something lasting.

And when the reception was held on the roof of one of the buildings for the Priest/Frost wedding, well, not all the happily-ever-afters were just for the clients.
