Why I don't get service at Hooters

I order iced tea.

Kinda makes sense. If I order tea, I'm automatically going to be a "low tipper" by virtue of the fact that even with a generous tip, my bill(and therefore the tip) will be lower than the guy that's ordering 3 or 4 beers. $2 for a drink with free refills vs $5 x however many beers/shots, no contest.

And I'm a non-smoker. Someone who used to be a waitress confirmed that they view people that sit in the smoking section(even if they're not actually a smoker) as bigger spenders.

So "Non-smoking please, and a sweet tea to drink" screws me from the beginning!

Now where this breaks down is that it's a somewhat self-fulfilling notion. If I don't feel like I'm getting good service I'm less likely to linger and order more food, so they do get less money. Meanwhile, the restaurant that doesn't rely on overpriced booze gets more repeat business and the increased likelihood of a higher percentage tip when I walk in and someone brings a tea without even having to ask.

Found this out during a threadjacked Fark discussion(search for "iced tea").

S'alright, though. It's not like I was a big fan of the "look but don't touch" notion anyway, I'd rather just save the money for a regular meal and rent a pr0n if I really need to see something. At least there I'm guaranteed to view naughty bits instead of just imagining it, with the added bonus of rewind and freeze-frame. ;^)
