The new Battlestar Gallactica is very very good. If you wanted something a little more light hearted you could try Firefly (and film Serenity) and/or Crusade (spin off from Babylon 5)
All (well most) of the even numbered Star Trek films. I never really watched it, but my brother was quite into 'Enterprise' as well - pretty low-brow I think, but probably less low-brow than the other versions of Star Trek.
I agree with the Firefly recommendation. Early X-files?
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine is surprisingly mature and realistic, as far as Star Trek goes. A lot of the early episodes are 'Alien of the Week' but it settles down into a longer story arcs quite quickly.
Farscape is great, and you can borrow it from esran
deep space nine and next gen are worthy. enterprise was starting to go somewhere interesting for me, but then they canceled it. I like firefly. I would like to see Babylon 5 and Farscape, maybe borrow them from someone. The even number ST movies are mostly better than the odd number movies. Star Wars movies I am sure you have seen. CSI is quite good, but not strictly sci fi. The earlier star gates were so/so. Some were better than others. I find the concept behind the show intriguing though. I have heard BSG is awesome, but I haven't watched it yet. I know Katebush and I will likely watch them together at some point. A really old, but great sci fi movie is Alien Mine. The movie is a bit dated, but the story is still as good. I'll see if I remember any others.

Farscape was pretty good. I also like Star Trek - The Next Generation (though it looks a bit dated now) and Stargate.
CSI? Well it's science and it's definitely fiction :)
