All day, I had to walk with a nagging pain in the sole of my foot. I thought a nail had come through the sole of my shoe: a quick examination of the inside of my shoe revealed nothing.

The inside of my sock, on the other hand, yielded a tiny stone.

I was blaming my shoe in the wrong.
