Make sure you stay hydrated. Drinking plenty of water can help a lot. It does mean trips to the loo more often but it stops your facia catching and causing knots in your muscles. Take something warm to wear, even if it is in summer.

yep, i'm going from high 90's to low-to-mid 70's as highs, so i'll be taking some sort of wrap or sweater with me.

and thank you, i struggle with hydration anyway, so that will help, i'm sure. :)

Compression hose, as tight as you can stand it (and maybe a little tighter). I understand they really help keep the blood flowing in your legs, which makes it a lot easier to walk off the plane. Which is not to say that lilysea doesn't have the right idea about getting a wheelchair, but they can't wheel you off the plane, so you're gonna have to walk for at least some of it.

compression hose are unfortunately verboten because of the diabetes. :(

so...i'll just keep up on the feet wriggling exercises that i read sbout. flexing the feet should help!

Why does the diabetes preclude you from wearing compression hose?

I'm curious too...normally they're recommended for a diabetic to help with circulation/edema/thrombosis issues. But like the poster below said, the ones that go to the knee are the only ones recommended.

As has already been suggested, yes, wear compression hose but only those that go up to the knee. i made the mistake of using the kind up to the thigh and they decided to roll down, cutting off my circulation on my 23 hr flight to Australia! UGH! Stay hydrated with water...and also take an aspirin before each flight. My Army daughter told me that is what the soldiers do and after 3 tours of duty to Iraq and Afghanistan, i trust in what she told me to do. Walk around during your flight, too, and i agree to the wheelchair. You won't believe how much that helps! In fact, you might have to insist on it but do it. You'll be glad you did. Have a safe trip! i don't think i could handle one with such a quick turnaround so hope yours goes without incident...Enjoy!

The last time I flew, I called ahead for the wheelchair, but you'll have to talk to the SkyCaps if you want one from the curb (when you arrive). If you have any metal in your body (not piercings, those are obvious), remember to tell them. You might have to walk through the x-ray machine, and if you have any electronics (laptop, cpap machine, that kind of thing) TSA will screen them, as usual, but I can't remember if they'd help you arrange everything on the belt. Since the Engineer is going with you, that should help immensely.

Echoing the hydration thing. Hadn't heard of the aspirin, but I'm not surprised, it keeps the blood thinner.

Oh, if you think you can sleep, take earphones/plugs, and an eyemask, as well as the pillow - if you are a light sleeper. That ought to be damned useful on a long flight when you are low on spoons. Take, or remember to buy when you get there, Epsom Salts for a nice bath upon arrival, bet that helps.

Good luck!
