here “Waffles.”
“You ate waffles yesterday.”
“So today let me eat it with ice cream.”
“That’s not breakfast.”
“Are you going to make me waffles with ice cream or are you trying to deny your own words that you’re gonna make me anything for breakfast?”
Kaoru sighs, knowing that he had lost, “Don’t complain to me if you get stomach upset.”
I grin and slouch back down on the couch. On a lazy day like this, nothing feels better than having Kaoru spoils me, his little prince.
“What ice cream do you want?” Kaoru asked from the kitchen. I heard the fridge door being opened, “…Vanilla or strawberry?”
“Mmm, chocolate.”
“We don’t have chocolate ice cream.”
I sit up again and make the sweetest face, “Buy it for me?”
He stares at me with disbelief, “Toshiya, come on.”
“Please?”
Groaning, he took off the apron he already worn, “Remind me not to promise you ‘anything’ at anything. You just have to make the hardest requests.”
People wouldn’t believe how easily Kaoru complies with my demands most of the time.
Kaoru hovers over me and places a quick peck on my forehead, “I boiled some water to make your favorite tea. Turn the fire off when it’s whistling.”
Ah, he even brews my favorite tea without me asking. Who says that Kaoru is uncaring and work-oriented? It doesn’t take too long for me to see his warm, gentle side.
Just as Kaoru went out the door, my phone vibrates on the end of the table. I reach it with my toes and bring the phone to my hands. I’m simply the best at lazing around, trained in all necessary skills. However, my little smile disappears when I see that it’s my father calling.
Call me ungrateful child, but I want to enjoy my peaceful morning just a bit longer, so I ignore the call.
See, my father is the one of the people who is against my relationship with Kaoru. My little brother and some of my friends are included. In the band, Shinya never seemed to understand why I and Kaoru are together, but he understands not to meddle in.
Well, I understand that they’re worried. And they all have one similarity: rock-headed. Which of course clashes with my no less rock-headed Kaoru.
They always say bad things, from huge issues like why would I want to be with another man. There are too many obstacles for us. We can’t get married. We can’t have a child. The world would be against us, including our own fans.
Small, mostly irrelevant issues were also raised, such as Kaoru is a workaholic. He cares about work more than his lover. He’s a nag-.
Honestly, I think their worries make sense. Much to their distaste, though, I don’t care.
The kettle whistles and I slowly stand up to turn the fire off. On my way, I caught a glimpse of things prepared by Kaoru for my waffles-a bowl of flour, chocolate syrup, sugar (I like my waffles sweet) and some kitchen appliances including the waffle pan. When I said that I love foods made by him the best, he bought a lot of special kitchen appliances so that he can make me all kinds of food.
So much love. How could my father say that Kaoru doesn’t truly love me?
“I’m back,” Kaoru announces his arrival.
“You’re late by just a few seconds. I should’ve waited so that I don’t have to get up and turn the fire off myself.”
He smiles, “Sorry, prince, I had a hard time choosing between chocolate ice cream with almonds or with chocolate chips.”
My eyes sparkle in a silly joy, “So which one did you choose?”
“Is both okay?” He asks, faking a worried expression.
I squeal and hug him tight, making him laugh. “If you eat too much, you’re gonna get fat, Toshiya.”
“I can’t get fat,” I stick my tongue out, “I don’t have the talent for that, unlike you.”
“Hey! I’m not fat!”
“Say that after you get rid of this,” I pinch his belly and snicker aloud.
“That comes from beer, so I can’t be called fat,” He insists, but he lets me off like usual. I make my way back to the couch, returning to the television show.
Lazy morning.
Me, Kaoru, my friendly couch, my television show, my soon-to-be-served waffles with chocolate ice cream and the warm sunlight.
Everything else doesn’t really matter.
