“How’s your jaw?” Penny asked as she got an ice pack from Leonard’s freezer, then sat next to him on the couch as he massaged his swollen cheek.
“It’s fine. The swelling’s going down.” He nodded slightly as she pressed the ice pack against the bruise.
“Sorry I hit you.”
He put one arm around her, shaking his head. “No, it was my fault. I shouldn’t have woken you up. I knew about your reflex to punch the closest moving thing when your REM cycle is disturbed.”
“Yeah, it’s a down side of growing up with a big brother.”
“I understand. It’s become a defensive maneuver.”
“Yeah, I guess. And you just wanted to say goodbye before you went to work. It was sweet.”
“Still, I should have just left a note on the pillow and maybe called after lunch.”
She shrugged, glancing down the hall towards his room. “There is a good part though.”
“Yeah, I still have all my teeth. Which is impressive, given the force of the punch.”
“Yeah, that was kinda surprising,” she agreed, then shook her head. “But, honey, we spent all morning in the ER and now you have the rest of the day off and I don’t need to be at the restaurant until tonight.”
He looked at her for a moment. “Maybe you gave me a mild concussion cause I’m not following.”
She put the ice pack on the coffee table and turned to look at him. “Ok, sweetie, stay with me here. We have all day. Alone. Without Sheldon. Work it out.”
He fell silent, shaking his head. “Give me a second.”
She laughed. “Oh my God. Really, Leonard?”
“You did hit me really hard.”
“And I want to make it up to you. Right now.”
“How?”
She rolled her eyes and whispered in his ear.
“Really?” he asked, laughing stupidly as she kissed his neck.
She nodded. “And…” She whispered to him again.
His eyes widened. “Yeah, I think that might make me feel better.”
