“Penny?” Leonard asked knocking on her closed bedroom door. He opened it slightly and looked in. “You sleeping?”
She looked at him, her hair back in a messy ponytail. “If I said I was, would it change anything you were about to do?” she murmured.
“Not at this point.” He walked into the room with a tray of food, which he put across her lap. “You should try to eat.”
“Leonard, you know I’m sick. I can’t keep anything down.”
He frowned, touching her forehead. “Yeah, you are running a little bit of a fever,” he told her, wiping his hand on his jeans. “Just try. There’s dry toast, eggs, orange juice and ginger ale. Nothing too harsh.”
She rolled her eyes and took a bite of the toast. “You really shouldn’t be here, you know. You’re gonna get sick.”
“Yeah, I know. Sheldon won’t let me in the apartment since I was with you when you got sick and now I’m exposed. I’ve been sleeping on the couch.”
She rolled her eyes again. “What happens when neither of us can get out of bed? Who’s gonna take care of you?”
He raised an eyebrow. “Do you think Sheldon takes care of me when I’m sick? Don’t worry about me.” He kissed her forehead softly and sat on the edge of her bed. “Besides, you got sick yesterday and, depending on the incubation period of whatever this is, you’ll be better before I am so you can take care of me.”
She took a sip of the juice and looked at him over the glass. “Will you get stupider when you’re sick?”
“Hopefully not enough to say stupider.”
She frowned. “Stupider is a word.”
“Technically, it isn’t. I mean, if you type it into a computer, spell check won’t find it but isn’t a real word. People say it, so it has become a culturally excepted expression. Sort of like ginormious.”
She stared at him and shook her head slightly.
“Yes, I’ll get stupider.”
