“Leonard?” Sheldon asked as he walked into the living room to find his roommate setting the coffee table with china and candles.
Leonard jumped and looked over his shoulder. “Sheldon,” he sighed. “I thought I asked you to leave for a few hours tonight.”
“You did but you didn’t give me a specific time.”
Leonard rolled his eyes. “Well, Penny will be here any minute so now would be good.”
“Of course I’ll leave. I wouldn’t want to interrupt your marriage proposal.”
“Thank you.” He pulled the diamond ring out of his pocket and dropped it into one of the champagne glasses.
“Ah, the champagne glass rouse.” Sheldon nodded approvingly. “Very romantic if you’re planning to spend the night of your engagement in the emergency room.”
Leonard let out a slow breath and turned to his roommate. “What?”
“Taking into account the speed at which Penny drinks, dropping the ring into her champagne glass would garner a higher probability of her choking than her saying no to you. If she did choke, she most likely would say no.”
Leonard blinked, looking at the table.
“I would also suggest not baking the ring into some kind of pastry. You’ve seen her eat and…”
“Sheldon?” he interrupted.
“Yes?”
“Please leave. I promise I will not put Penny in the hospital.”
“You can’t possibly promise that. You can try to prevent it, but accidents do happen. That’s why they’re called accidents.”
“Hey, guys,” Penny said as she walked into the apartment. She looked between the two of them for a moment before speaking again. “What’s going on?”
“Sheldon was just leaving,” Leonard said, gritting his teeth, looking up at his roommate.
“Yes, I was.” He nodded and started toward the door, stopping as he passed Penny. “Good luck tonight, Penny. I suggest drinking your champagne slowly.”
