prompt table and disclaimer “Is it always this hot?”
Penny opened her eyes, pushing her sunglasses to the top of her head. “What?” she asked, looking at Leonard, who was sitting on a beach towel next to her, his bare feet in the sand. He was wearing his normal sweatshirt, jacket and jeans.
“I don’t remember the beach being this hot.”
“Maybe it would help if you took off a few layers.” He shrugged out of his sweatshirt. She smiled, rolling onto her stomach. “When was the last time you went to the beach?”
He shrugged. “It’s been a while. I hope you put sunscreen on today,” he said, looking at her tiny pink bikini.
“I did.” She turned her head to look at him as he propped a notebook on his legs and began scribbling in it. “Honey, come on, it’s your day off. Stop working.”
“But I’m-” he began but was cut off when Penny pulled the notebook out of his hands. “Alright. Very funny. Give it back.”
“Nope.” She stood up and ran towards the ocean, the notebook still in her hand.
“What are you doing?” he called after her. “Penny,” he yelled as she went into the water. He quickly stood, running after her. “Penny!”
Still wearing his jeans and t-shirt, he walked into the waist high water where she stood, holding his notebook over her head. “Give it to me,” he said.
“No. I want you to relax.”
“Penny, I promise, I’ll relax. But you need to give me that notebook back. I will not be able to relax knowing that my research is becoming fish food.” He held out his hand.
She pouted, handing the notebook back to him.
“Thank you.” He turned and began walking out of the water, with her close behind him. He left the water, barely able to walk under the weight of his sagging jeans when Penny ran up behind him and jumped on his back, tackling him face-first into the sand.
“Really?” he demanded, spitting some sand out of his mouth as he rolled over underneath her to look at her.
She straddled his waist, then smiled and kissed him. “Really.”
“You do realize this is pretty much the exact opposite of helping me relax, right?”
