How did he get here? With her? Not that Eli minded having Clare in his bed, underneath him as he kissed her. He couldn’t remember how they got to his room. She told him she wanted to spend the night with him and now… there they were. Alone. On his bed.
“Clare.” He managed to separate their lips just long enough to say her name before she pressed her lips to his again.
Her hand went to the hem of his t-shirt. He jumped when he felt her fingers against his stomach. He grabbed both of her hands and pinned them above her head.
“Clare,” he said again, holding her down as he sat up slightly. “We need to talk.”
“You have my attention.”
He let her go and sat up next to her. “We shouldn’t be doing this.”
“What? Why?”
“You know why,” he whispered.
She looked at her hands. “You don’t… want me?”
“What? No. I mean… yes. I mean, I do want you. I do. I just know that you’re upset and you’re not thinking right. This isn’t what you want.”
“You don’t know what I want.”
“Neither do you. If you can look me in the eye and tell me you want to have sex with me tonight, then ok.”
She lifted her eyes to his. “I… I want to be with you.”
He shook his head. “Say the words.”
“I just want to feel something.” She reached for his shirt again, he pushed her hands away. “I don’t want to go home,” she mumbled.
“I know. You don’t have to.” He kissed the side of her head quickly. “I’ll sleep on the couch.”
She grabbed his arm when he began to move off the bed. “I meant it when I said I want to spend the night with you, Eli. I don’t want to be alone. I want to fall asleep in your arms and I want to wake up next to you tomorrow. I just don’t wanna be alone.”
He kissed her softly and got off the bed, opening a drawer of his dresser. He pulled out a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt, handing them to her before he began walking toward the door.
“Eli?”
“You can’t sleep in your uniform,” he explained with a tiny shrug. “I’ll be right outside.”
