Squall sat on one of Garden's balconies, staring blankly off at nothing. Rinoa was angry at him and he had no idea why. Something he'd said, or something he should have but didn't, or something he did or didn't do, he didn't know. And she'd refused to tell him. "Please, just think about it yourself, Squall. It won't mean as much if I just tell you."

So he was trying to think.

He was still thinking when Selphie sat down beside him, annoyingly noogying his head on her way down. "Boy, Squall, you're so totally helpless when we leave you on your own aren't you?"

He glared at her out of the corner of his eye. "Anything helpful to offer?"

"Squall, Squall, Squall, my poor dumb friend," she said, shaking her head despairingly. "Squall, I know you probably think that since Rinoa fell in love with you in spite of all your... youness that you can just treat her the way you always have when you're feeling especially you-like, but there are seriously things you just shouldn't do when dating somebody! Like giving them your card to look at when they say they feel like they haven't seen you in a while, do you get why maybe that's not a good idea?"

"That's what this is about?" He frowned at her. "It's the only picture I had."

"Squall, she didn't mean 'seen you' literally." She pressed her hand to her forehead in a mimicry of Squall's own common tic and shook her head, then all at once hopped to her feet and smiled at him. "Okay, we're going to go have a talk. And then, and I don't believe I'm saying this, you're getting some advice from Irvine. And after that, and once I've told you which advice of Irvine's you should completely ignore, you're going to apologize to Rinoa knowing exactly what you did wrong and the two of you will make up. Understood?"

Now this Squall was much more comfortable with. Orders he could understand, could deal with much more handily than just being told to think on his own. He got to his feet and snapped her a sharp salute, "Understood, ma'am."

"Okay, don't start calling me that or I'll start calling you Commander," she said, skipping ahead of him. "And that would just be too bizarre!"
