She smells something delicious as soon as she walks into the flat. Slade's home and he's cooking and her stomach growls as she throws her keys on the table next to his. She kicks off her shoes as she heads for the kitchen, enjoying the gentle strains of the music that permeates the air.

She can still remember back to a time when she'd have come home to nothing but silence.

She doesn't miss those days at all.

She pads silently across the kitchen to curl into his side and he smiles, happy to see her, kisses her briefly and waves a hand towards the wine on the side. There's a glass waiting for her to fill it but she puts it off for a few minutes in favour of staying where she is.

"How was your day?" he asks, turning the heat down so he can divert his attention to her without burning down the kitchen.

"It went okay," she shrugs. "Long but they liked my presentation. How was yours?"

"Stopped a burglary, caught a killer," he says. "Missed you though."

She twists her fingers into his shirt and tugs, silently asking him to turn round and face her. His arms wrap around her waist and she leans up to kiss him properly, his body warm and familiar under her hands. She misses him whenever they aren't together.

"Dinner'll be ready in five," he says, brushing his fingers across her cheek before he tangles them gently in her hair. "Get changed if you like. I picked up a What's On for the cinema if you want to see a late showing-- but I'm begging you, nothing with subtitles."

She shakes her head. "Let's stay in tonight." She smiles at him and kisses him again. "We can find something to do here."

She reluctantly disengages herself to go and get changed, takes the glass of wine he pours for her with her and pauses at the door to look at him.

He's humming as he puts their meal together and she thinks back to a time when they were just friends and knows she never wants to go back to that. Her life with him is so much better than the life she had before, transformed from its previous state of loneliness into something she looks forward to every day.

They aren't perfect and they bicker and argue over the stupidest things -- he doesn't think, she gets jealous -- but she loves him and she knows he loves her. It's just them and their life and it's better than anything else she could imagine.
